This Christmas display (http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000263069055/) is jaw-dropping awesome, although I would have to kill the guy if he were my neighbor!

So do you think this is real or photoshopped? I'm almost sure it's still-action manipulation.

:dead:  Awful !! Don't think it is a montage though, unfortunately I think it is real, and agree with you, poor people those who happen to be his/her neighbour.

It won't let me in, maybe too many lookers. Here's the message I got:
GO AWAY ENGADGET!!

You wrecked my bandwidth... that vid wasn't even mine! ;-)

The song from the vid was Wizards in Winter by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

While you're here, visit here:TRENDWHORE
I've been called worse :)

raniday...

Take a look at the last line on that page... the link is there. I thought the same thing at first, too.

Actually, here's the vid (http://homepage.usask.ca/%7Eamn076/lights.wmv) (right click, save as) on my University Webspace which I can only assume is unlimited :-D

I had had the same problem but the video worked from Racc Iria's link (without saving ! )
But what fun the video is and set to the music great, it must of took ages to make,I dont think photoshopped but animated some how, but i do agree i wouldn't like to live by the house when all the lights are on ! ! ! ! ! This christmas lighting has only really took of here over the last 4/5 years, and houses done to extreme are rare and get a visit ( with the grandkids of course )

Thanks, guys. I'm glad I didn't miss it. It's extreme and tacky, and I love it :) You have to admire the ingenuity and energy it took to set that up. No, I wouldn't do it to my house, but if it were somewhere nearby, I would drive to see it............unless they were my neighbors, and then I would fuss.

Now I have had neighbors that I would have been more than glad to rig up my house that way, have it play from say dark to 10 or 11, every night between T-day and xmas

To try a similar effect, I could maybe generate key frames with Phototoshop. What software do you recommend to generate between frames and to synchronize with music?

I use ProShow Producer extensively for doing videos similar to this one. The less expensive "Gold" version is capable of this too. It can be found here:

"Are you a dancer?" "No, I'm just drunk!" lol, legacy :)

as for the x-mas lights, that could be real. it could be something similar to how you do light and music presentations on a stage. but, whatever it is, it's cute :)

and kschulz, thanks for the link to that software!

I echo that thanks, Kurt - I may try the software, and just viewing the demo by Randy Harris is worth the visit! If you enjoy a close-up view of grizzly bears, catching salmon, cubs playing, etc. plus some award-winning photography (all shots are wonderful, some are truly Art), click on the link to his video -- (you have to agree to download a viewer program from Photodex)

The Christmas lights video may not be real, but it is fun, and I love those "dancing" trees. The music/light synchronization is right on! PanPan - thanks for that link!

OMG, that says this house with the lights is in Mason, Ohio. That's about 4 miles north of my house! I'll check it out and report back on whether its real or photoshopped. :lmao:

Sorry for the dead link. Fortunately, Racc and Mike found new ones.

So it's real after all, although it could be faked with software like ProShow (thanks for the link Kurt!). Based on Mike's info, I visited Light-O-Rama's site. I estimate Carson Williams' setup at $2,000. He really wanted this!

CJ, the Mike Ridout show is also worth seeing. I thought it was stuck until I pressed his name at the bottom of the intro screen.

Thanks for the new videos Legacy and Mike. I wish I could dance like that sober!

Ok, I just returned from a little trip to Mason. I can truthfully say that, unequivocally, undeniably, without even a trace of doubt...it's the real thing! There ain't no photoshoppin' here.

It's actually quite an impressive display. A sign in the front yard tells visitors to "Tune to 96.5 FM". Carson has over 25,000 lights sync'ed to music transmitted to your car radio. The song in the video is actually only one of several he has in the "show", which include Snoopy and the Red Baron, a dancing Frosty the Snowman, and another Trans-Siberian Orchestra tune. Apparently he runs it only from 6:00pm to 10:00pm every night, so as not to aggravate the neighbors. From what I understand, the neighbors are all fine with it. All in all, quite fun to see.

Panpan...

Your link wasn't dead. I got it from the link you originally posted. It was a little unclear on that person's page. I thought it was a broken link at first, too. Then I looked closer at the last line on that page and saw the link. It said to save the file first, but I didn't want to do that. Out of curiosity I clicked on it anyway and it worked. So, I just reposted that last line with the link here in this thread.

Glad it worked for everyone.

Yeah, but I'm an electrician so he used 88 channels to do his show.
What if I used more?

Actually, I am really impressed. WOW!

How did you find where this display was?

An earlier post mentioned that someone checked with the snopes.com website to see if it was listed as a hoax/urban legend etc. -- they listed it as True -- and gave the owner's name and city/state.

I did a search using the name and city:

Carson Williams
8047 Winding Creek Ct
Mason, OH 45040-6914

I used Mapquest to get directions (my fav Google Maps couldn't find that street). It was very easy to get to.

This is definitely real!
I just was flipping through channels this morning and on the Today show I stopped because I recognized the house and it's lights! They had the whole family on there talking with them. He said that it adds about $150 to his light bill to run the lights.

I saw that, too. Pretty cool. Retouchpro scooped NBC. They just don't know it.

Yes, it definitely is real...I live right around the corner from him! It is very neat to see, but the traffic yesterday (after the Today Show aired it, I'm assuming) was out of control! We were not able to get in or out of our neighborhood and I actually heard that there was over an hour wait to drive back to his house. Pretty crazy! I'm just thankful that I don't live next door or I would be pretty upset about it!
