I seem to be stuck in a rut. I have been tinkering for weeks with this one, and can never seem to move past this point.

I don't care for the original scan quality, but it's all I could get.

Lac,

You are getting there. Healing and cloning are often tedious, but you seem to be doing just fine.

The image is a bit soft, but that is often true of pictures of this period. Some sharpening should help.

I see you cropped out the mirror, which is OK; it helps focus the eye on the subject.

Keep up the good work.

Welcome to RP. I think Ken hit the nail square on the head. Don't give up on it, but take a break if you need one.

lacry,

i'm a little curious as to why you would be stuck at this point. you obviously know how to clone/heal from the results you've gotten so far. and there is still some of that to be done, the car as seen through the car window and the line above the girl's hair. so, why stuck there when you've already done so much of the same thing? i mean, what's the 'stuck' part? what are you seeing that seems impossible to do at this point?

Kraellin,
I am having difficulties with the window (car door), aside from that I'm having a rough time deciding what to do with all of the little cracks.

I've thought about blurring the background and sharpening the foreground.
I've also tried applying a motion blur to the 'middle' car. I think a break is well in order. Cloning is quite a pain.
My eyelids feel like sandpaper.

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. I'm going to tackle this sooner or later, (later no doubt. New year's eve is upon us)

Happy New Year

:P

The beginning work you're doing is wonderful.

The area above her head is a bit tricky. I made a selection of one of the windows to the left of the area. I then copied the selected window and pasted it down right over her head. This put in an extra window on top of the tough part - and covered over it. That might be an idea.

On the car in the window. You could make a selection of the outline of the car and bumper area. Invert the selection so it becomes a protected area. This would allow you to clone stamp in some more street right up to the edge of the car without crossing into the protected selection. After you have some road cloned right up to the edge of the car - then - invert the selection again so it only allows writing within the selection - you can then use the smudge tool perhaps to smudge the lines in the bumper.

Just some general ideas - hopefully one of them might give you some daylight to encourage you to carry on. Im sure others might have some other suggestions as well.

Hi everybody,

HAPPY 2006!!!!

Lac,

Welcome to RP! :pleased:

I agree with everybody here .... you have done a real nice job so far!!
I also know for personal experience that there is only so much time I can dedicate to the same picture ... then I need a break ....

I didn't restore your picture ... I only 'fixed' some of the areas you pointed out as I saw it .... This simply to give you some alternative ideas of what could be tried ...

Hope this helps.... but 'the' break first

Flora, I am astonished that you fixxed up that mirror .. ... My masochistic streak coming through .... :D

When the damage in a picture 'calls' for a partial reconstruction, I usually 'create a new window for' ... zoom in very, very strongly one of the two, and tile both windows horizontally .... This gives me the possibility to work on the smallest details while checking how my changes look like in the 'normal size' view.

Then, depending on the PS version (I work with CS2), ... I create a new empty Layer on top, select the Healing Brush (Replace first and Normal later), and, making sure that the 'Sample All Layers' box on the top bar is checked, I start my 'reconstruction .... :classic:
