I am comfortable removing blemishes, smoothing skin, enhancing colors, etc. for glamour touchup work. Could someone shed light on how some touchup artists completely redo eyelashes to look neater, blacker, longer, and denser. Is this simply skillful painting? TouchofGlamour accomplishes this here (http://www.touchofglamour.com/Pageant%20Retouching%201.htm)

Jonathan,
Katrin Eismann has an excellent instruction on eyelashes in her 3rd Edition of Photoshop Restoration and Retouching.

hi! somewhere on this forum I recall a thread about pageant retouching where there was mention of Flora creating brushes for Photoshop that were "false eyelashes" -- you could place it on a separate layer like a stamp and then mask/rotate/resize it to fit on the eye you need. http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11018&highlight=eyelash+brushes
hope this can help you....Kate

These were the kinds of things I was wondering about. I use GIMP, so I'll have to figure out how to make or find eyelash brushes for GIMP. But now I'm on the right track.

I am unfamiliar with GIMP but I assume there is a way to create brush presets. If you know how to do this you could presumably create a brush in your program from an image of the lash brushes. (in Photoshop if it is black on white you just select the black of the lashes and then use that to define the brush preset) If you think the procedure is similar I can post up a plain white image with the black lash brushes stamped on it. Otherwise, you may have to create some. Would be a shame since flora did a bang up job.

Mine are hand drawn and saved. On natural retouches, I use my tablet and stroke over the natural lashes, lengthing them and making them more dense. Here (http://www.justgrafx.com/images/eyes.jpg) is my basic set that I use w/pageant photos. I have others as well that are used with the individual photographers.
