This is a favorite picture my brother took of our grandmother years ago. I thought it would be a fun one to mess with. Not terribly happy with my attempt, but I'll keep trying. Have fun.

I really, really love manipulating and editing photos, but in this case, I so much prefer the original.

Wonderful Impressionists, though.

Maureen :)

I attached a lower quality crop. Here's (http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/9610/pastel7ga.jpg) the full rendering (500K + so be aware of that). :)

Started with vector simplication and then used Impressionist Detailed Color pencil for the Pastel. I then applied the cloth texture (via a GIMP Scriptfu) with varied intensity (more emphasis on the lighter colors) by using Cybia's eliminate white filter as a screen for the texture. Also on the base pastel image from Photoshop, I applied a little GIMP bumpmapping; very subtle to give some added dimention to the strokes (as from a Pastel crayon). :)

I guess I'm with Maureen on preferring the original. But did that stop me? No! (Laughs evilly)...

Did anybody else wish you could walk into that room and move the @!#% chair out of the foreground?

Colorized
Caravaggio
Impressionist (fairly faithful settings)
Impressionist again, more agressive this time
Painted out the second version where I wanted to maintain detail (e.g. face, hair)

Palms,

Like what you did with the lighting/contrast - VERY dramatic and striking.

lkroll,

I'm not familiar with a lot of the steps you've described, (my limited repetoire consists mostly of Impressionist filters) but I really like your results.

Maureeno,

I have to agree. Not much to improve upon.

dc,

You're absolutely right about the @!#% chair, maybe I'll clone it out. Love your colorization, gives it a lot of life!!

Thanks to you all for giving grandma a whirl!
