Rô NancyJ 02-02-2006, 10:01 AM You're an evil man byRo ;)
Just one question you say
Portrait Retouch - make this into a great photo, but without altering the subjects.
Does that mean we have to keep both subjects in the picture? Because that seems in conflict with
This is a Restoration and Portrait Retouch: The final imge should look like it was shot yesterday, by a professional photographer, straight out of the camera
The poor lady is missing half her head, now I'm sure we've all done a bit of transplant surgery on a missing body part - but half a head it going to be very noticeable ;) Particularly to the lady in the photo  Evil, me?
Nah, if I was evil I'd say "That's your problem. Deal with it!" :ogre:
..well come to think of it I am going to say that - but in a rather more educated way (of course).
Yes, you are stuck with (less than) half of the mother's face. You can't take it away completely, nor can you complete it. Should be interesting to see how folks get around this.
OK, so I am evil after all.
 Rô  twinkissed 02-02-2006, 12:52 PM Oy!
That's about all I have to say about this one. lol TwinbNJ 02-02-2006, 12:58 PM This is a challenge to say the least! NancyJ 02-02-2006, 01:01 PM
so... we have to make it look like a professional photo, with the mothers head chopped off - thats more than a challenge.
Its gonna take more than a crate of beer to think outside the box on this one... :) TwinbNJ 02-02-2006, 01:09 PM Nancy -
Or a case of wine!!! NancyJ 02-02-2006, 01:13 PM I think the only solution is enough absinthe to see Kylie as the absinthe fairy (Moulin Rouge reference ;) ) TwinbNJ 02-02-2006, 01:31 PM LOL - I hear ya! Peter S 02-02-2006, 02:58 PM Ro
You say we are stuck with half a woman, ?
But in the rules you say 3. Your final image size must be exactly 800 by 600 px, in either orientation.
I would take this to mean we could crop to 800 high by 600 wide. If we do we must loose some of the picture, can't that be the Mother??
Peter
I agree with the others you are showing your nasty side with this one I agree with the others you are showing your nasty side with this oneDon't worry, T will be back soon. It's just to make you miss her even more.
If we do we must loose some of the picture, can't that be the Mother?? Well, you could - but then the guys that didn't just might discount that come voting time.
Beer? Wine?? Absinthe??? Ladies please! No need for this.
Nothing that a couple of "caipirinhas (http://www.cookbrazil.com/caipirinha.htm) " wouldn't fix.
Thanks to the reigning champ Robin for kicking off.
Rô TwinbNJ 02-02-2006, 05:19 PM Thanks Ro! the caipirinhas did it! Just the inspiration I needed. :dizzy:
Fixing colors is not something I am good at, that made this more difficult than just keeping both subjects in the picture! NancyJ 02-03-2006, 01:28 AM Beer? Wine?? Absinthe??? Ladies please! No need for this.
Nothing that a couple of "caipirinhas (http://www.cookbrazil.com/caipirinha.htm) " wouldn't fix.
Bit chilli for that round here, 12.4 degrees c right now.
My god you people are quick, I've barely even investigated it. I think that blue channel is going to give me nightmares Doug Colwell 02-03-2006, 08:45 AM Maybe the instructions should be amended to read 'by a drunk professional photographer' ? Anyone else having problems opening Robin's pic in photoshop? I get a 'could not open the document because of a disk error' message. It opens fine in the windows image viewer so it's not a big deal, but would like to know if the bug is in the file or in my photoshop app. NancyJ 02-03-2006, 08:56 AM Maybe the instructions should be amended to read 'by a drunk professional photographer' ?.
I think mine will probably end up as 'by a drunk professional photographer with his cell phone camera ;) chrishoggy 02-03-2006, 09:01 AM Opens OK for me in CS2 Doug :dizzy: :) RL Design 02-03-2006, 12:49 PM Anyone else having problems opening Robin's pic in photoshop? Hi Doug - the file is saved a a JPEG from Photoshop. I am working on a Mac, so no worries about viruses. If needed I can resave and reattach. Doug Colwell 02-03-2006, 01:38 PM Hi Robin, I tried opening your Jan pic too and got the same error, so I'm thinking my PS5.5 can't understand the Mac version. So far yours is the only one I can't open. No need to re-save or anything thanks - if I come across more I'll just have more excuses to upgrade to CS. SWEngineer 02-04-2006, 12:48 PM After literally working all night on this giving the mother a nose and eyes, I read the comments thread and learn this isn't allowed. :bawling:  :bawling: Thus the title. Drunk pro photographer or not, you're pushing me towards drunk amature restorer/retoucher. :dead:
Not willing to waste this effort, and with due apologies to the real mother (& father, & child), I'm posting the result of my hard, non-elegible work here.
I'll come up with a legit entry after I work off my sleep deficit.
In the mean time you all (especially byRo :devious:  ) better be replying with some sympathy (or at least some constructive criticism  ).
BTW, you get the improper size version. I already spent extra time fixing this too. Maybe I have a problem reading directions? :lmao: videosean 02-04-2006, 03:50 PM What pro would use a 126 camera? Especially yesterday ;)
Great challenge! Doug Colwell 02-04-2006, 04:30 PM Looks great SW Engineer. Maybe you'll spark a side contest in the discussion forum???? TwinbNJ 02-04-2006, 06:24 PM SWEngineer - OUCH - I feel your pain!
Great job on the reconstruction of mom. When I first opened the challenge I thought "OK do we have to create mom? How can you Keep both subjects in the picture from a "proffesional" that CUT mom's head off!!!! " LOL
Well you can always crop out all that work you did (BIG OUCH) and go from there. Best of luck. What pro would use a 126 camera? Especially yesterday ;)
110 actually.
You guys are doing great! The way this started I thought nobody was even going to enter.
Aha, so you like 'em tough :pirate: then..
..OK, wait till you see next month :ogre:
Oops, forgot. T's back next month.
Don't know if that's going to make it any easier though.
SWEngineer, nice try. I've got another photo taken the same day, I'll post it later so you can see how close you came.
Rô HannibalVector 02-21-2006, 11:17 AM A question for byRo:
May I use the original picture and my version for my portfolio? Hi there, Hannibal. welcome to RetouchPRO :bigthmb:
OK, no problem. The photographer  and models  have given their consent.
Rô I think times about up!
But as the site seemed to be a bit on the blink today, and seeing as summer-time just finished here (and I'm a bit lost where GMT is now); the contest will end in (about) three hours from now.
LAST CHANCE!
Rô NancyJ 02-21-2006, 01:12 PM ..Time check - was working late tonight, looks like I'm gonna miss this one. twinkissed 02-21-2006, 04:05 PM Just can't help but have that Jeopardy game show tune in my head...
Time being almost up and all ;) The contest entries are now closed.
A very big Thank You to all that decided to take up this difficult challenge.
The voting thread (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12719) is now open.
You may observe that there have been some slight amendments to the voting rules. Nothing special - just trying to avoid some awkward situations that could come up one day.
See you there!
Rô HannibalVector 02-27-2006, 09:01 PM Hi there, Hannibal. welcome to RetouchPRO :bigthmb:
Thanks, I like it here!
OK, no problem. The photographer  and models  have given their consent.
Thanks, :bigthmb:
But first I have to build my website, I put a link in my profile when I am ready! PhotoB 03-01-2006, 07:39 AM Congratulations Videosean!! Job well done!
Now that the voting is ended, I wanted to appologize for my entry this month. I have been down with a broken leg/ankle after slipping on ice at the end of January. I literally spent 20 minutes on my entry, just enough to enter so I could get my vote in. I promise to do better this month. Lorraine 03-01-2006, 09:04 AM Congratulations Videosean. Excellent job!!!!!
PhotoB, I hope you're feeling better.
Lorraine Gary Richardson 03-01-2006, 09:23 AM Congratulations Videosean. Cassidy 03-01-2006, 09:25 AM yes, many congrats videosam on this one OnAir 03-01-2006, 10:39 AM Congratulations, Videosean, it was very challeging contest. Well, for those who wondered what the rest of mommy looked like....
... and also, as a reward, a good chuckle at yours truly, a very long time ago (when the hair was on top of the head and not hanging off the chin)
Rô HannibalVector 03-01-2006, 05:09 PM AHAAAA ...finally we see the whole mommy! .....Looking good!
Now I know why you live in Brazile, they've got nice looking women over there.
I thought the mommy and child where white, and that I made the skincolor to dark. Now I realize that she is Brazilian, and that I wasn't so far of after all.
I don't mean that as an excuse btw, the rest of my colors could be better also.
But I never tought I would come so far. I am very honoured with my 3th place.
Congratulations Videosean, you earned it! You did an amazing job on the colors!
@ the other runner ups: also congratulations! You did a great job too.
But there are more people who did a great job.
@PhotoB: don't appologize, at least you gave it a try. Get well soon! SWEngineer 03-01-2006, 06:05 PM Congratulations to videosean for a well earned 1st place overall.
Now I'd like to apologize to everyone for spoiling my entry with that crummy frame. A 10 hour restore & retouch matched with a 10 minute frame... No wonder it didn't go over well. :lmao:
byRo, that was one tough challenge. Double so in that the requested end state had so many contradictory if not impossible demands. Kudo's to everyone who gave it a shot. You're a talented & fearless bunch! cazubi 03-01-2006, 08:20 PM Congratulations Videosean. You did a great job with a very difficult photo.
Cathy :bigthmb: philbach 03-02-2006, 03:11 AM Great job and a well deserved win> TwinbNJ 03-02-2006, 05:59 AM congrats Videosean! this was a difficult challenge.

It was an honor to fight by your side! Doug Colwell 03-03-2006, 05:29 PM Congrats Videosean, great job! videosean 03-05-2006, 03:50 AM WOW! Thanks so much :D
I'm going to go through and catch up and read since I've only been able to check in here on weekends lately but I didn't think I'd actually win!
wow... just wow :) PhotoB 03-13-2006, 01:43 PM you MUST share your sharpening technique!! Now that's a WOW! |
