I wanted to ask you whether it is possible to Gaussian blur one specific color channel - or to obtain a similar effect ?

Yes, it is possible to GB only one channel, assuming that your software allows you to access individual channels. In Photoshop, for example, you click on the Channel Tab in the Palette. Click on the channel that you want to blur. Then from the Filter Menu, select Blur>Gaussian Blur.

Actually almost all of the filters, and many of the Image>Adjustments will work on the indivudual channels.

I can't seem to figure out how to mask in one channel. Say I want to blur only the skin on the green channel but not eyes, mouth, and eyebrows, how do I go about masking these?

Would appreciate any advice.

No problem....
1) Your first step when you first decided to blur the Green channel was to duplicate the original layer - wasn't it? :nod: :nod:

You now have two options open for you....

2a) Do what ever you want to do with the Green channel on the new layer and apply a layer mask as normal. For the Red and Blue channels (which haven't been changed) it won't make any difference whether they are masked or not, while for the Green channel the effect gets masked properly;

..or better..

2b) In your new layer open up the blending options (right click on the layer) and uncheck the R and B boxes. Now you can do whatever you want without worrying about channels at all - only the Green channel counts. Good thing with this is that you're not restricted to channels and so this way all of the tools will work.

Indeed I'm on Photoshop. The fact is (I confess), I had tried to do exactly that, but it didn't seem to work at the moment... shame on me... now it works like a charm ! I'll see what I can get from it...
