Hello everyone :)

Just thought I'd attach this image, and show what I did with it - would love to see what those more seasoned can do! I was taking a photo of some stunning chinese orchids my husband bought me (they come in BLUE!) and got this one. Initially I looked at it, decided it was too blurry and that was it, but then I played around and realised the blur works when it is converted to painting!

My original original was 2.6mb and the final product was something like 10mb so both have been reduced for practical purposes! I've kept the original huge one though.

I don't remember what I did - but it was basic, lol. That's my level here, working with PS7. Very much a novice! But zoomed the original actually looks like it is on canvas, which was an achievement for me, although I'm sure you're all going well duh...lol. A lot of my experiments come by finding a filter or three, hitting it, and closing my eyes while hoping for a decent result, lol.

So, here it is! The original is attached. The finished one is linked because it is too big to post here - at 0 quality its 500kb, lol.

link to finished piece:

There are others on this first link also - most photo's I've done (including some of a more, ahh mature content - art nudes for eg.)

This link is in case the other one doesn't work, lol. Its also a bigger picture.

LOL Harmless, Palms?

Thanks for your pic - it is gorgeous, I like the abstract nature - mine still definitely looks like flowers. I was very lucky to get a great subject, at the same time I got a new camera, thanks to hubby (very popular man around here). According to the kids, these are fairy flowers (I do have a full picture of the bouquet) because you just don't see electric blue flowers! The other colours are a light and dark pink, and yellow and brown. the surround is my hallway carpet and wall, lol.

What did you use to create the pic, Palms? Was it in Photoshop?

Your Hubby sounds great maybe sometime we could do a swop, i think mine has forgot where his pockets are
Yes i used ps7 for this, and then art history brush,
feeling somewhat calmer now so will probably do a more conventional version later

Hey I like the colors. I used the circular tutorial method explained HERE (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12846) on a portion of your picture and came up with this.

Thanks for posting your vibrant picture.

Ohmigosh!!!!

That is stunning, thank you, and thanks for the tutorial link I will have to try it!

I've attached another, similar pic link - feel free to copy from its destination, it has the blue flower as the focus - also really blurry, lol.

Ok well using the blue-focus, I attempted that fantastic circle effect and here is the result.

Thanks for pointing me there, that is wonderful!

dee dee,

practical? you gotta be kidding ;)

but, you could use it to make logos. your first one could easily be a company logo for...someone.

Oh yeah advertising would be good.

What about a digital Christmas Tree? now you can have 5-minute ornaments :) lol.

And it sure makes a blurry photo look pretty - that is practical - saving otherwise hopeless pictures? lol

Palms... Yours is facinating. Some detail, please... :)

Inspired by Palms, on the first one I used Virtual Painter's Rectangle, Photoshop's Smart Blur (Edges only) applied twice to individual duplicates of the VP layer at different settings (one layer white lines [blend mode screen], the other [inverted]) to get black lines [blend mode darken]).

The second is based on the first with an application some texture (Texturizer > Sandstone) and embossing (merge all layers onto a new layer, Stylize > Emboss, set blend mode to Overlay).

Danny as i said in a earlier post i used the ahb in different sizes ( normally i do this on three different layers but not this time ! )
I used a brush that was part of a set i downloaded called touchstoneset3 best way to describe it is it looks like a corner ( named scary1) then dabbed the colour as opposed to brushing,
when finished sharpened using usm a bit on the heavy side
Next i done a pattern layer Gauze reducing opacity till got the effect i wanted probably about 20%

hope this has made some sense

i have found this link to touchstone brushes ( not sure if this is where i got the set from but set 3 is there under smudges )

Thank you :)

Its a bit scary posting my first thing on here, and with it being my own photo, even more so! The results you've all come up with have been very inspiring and the support for my photograph is very much appreciated, thank you all!

Thats ok Danny because i realised afterwards that i hadn't commented on your paintings, which again were impresive, i liked the blocked look it worked very well with the colours, which i think were the main inspiration beautiful colours. The brushes are good fun some work well some dont but it's fun finding out.
And i really enjoyed doing something different ( dont know if it has a name the style) and it has given me a bit of confidence to do different things
