Here's a simple PDF tutorial on adding winter trees or forests to landscapes. The tutorial references 3D terrain modelers but the principles are purely retouching and apply to photography just as easily.

The paints you'll need are included. The tutorial and tools are posted here (http://www.gardenhose.com/forests.htm). (You can use Photoshop to complete the tutorial, but Painter, PSP, Gimp or PhotoImpact may offer more fun.)

I've mostly referenced 3D terrain modelers, Painter/PSP users and entertainment imaging pros in the past. But, I looked at that snow render today and realized that in this instance 3D render and photographic retouching are distinctions without a difference.

(I was a member here long ago, but had to re-register.)
