Have fun! ~Danny~ Legacy~Art 03-06-2006, 08:06 PM Here is mine, Oil Pastel of a beautiful violin! Will tell you how i did it when the contest is over! Nice to see you Danny, i still owe you some chocolates! Ella xxx I have a larger size if you need without a signature. Oh can i include a stamp, for when you send the gift to someone? Do not count the stamp as my entry the big pic is my entrance picture!!! Steve Conway 03-07-2006, 09:08 AM Violin or fiddle? Steve dkcoats 03-07-2006, 11:24 AM Let's see...this started with some simplification in Photoshop CS2. Then took it into Gertrudis Pro (this is just one of several versions) then went back to Photoshop for embossing and texture. dc studioj 03-07-2006, 11:35 AM Dear Steve, I'll answer your question. First of all, this picture it's mirrored, cauze the strings are backwards, the stronguest should be at last. Another thing, this is a cheap Chinesse violin, and a Fiddle for Americans it's a good violin to play country music. A fiddle have a low angle bridge, and this one it's high angled, also, the Chinesse guys don't do fiddles, they work for the World Wide Market. Also the fingerboard should be low angled. I'm a luthier too. Steve Conway 03-07-2006, 12:00 PM Gracias mi amigo. I was only trying to have a little joke with my question. But you did enlighten me regarding the image being printed backward. I did know a man who was a fine fiddle pklayer and injured his left arm in an auto accident. He re-strung his fiddle backward and fingered with his right hand and bowed with his left. Steve Dear Steve, I'll answer your question. First of all, this picture it's mirrored, cauze the strings are backwards, the stronguest should be at last. Tell him to log into www.internationalviolin.com or write to sales@internationalviolin.com they sell great left handed violins, and the sales guy it's a professional fiddle player, he could adjust the violin to turn it into a fiddle ;) Alcar 03-07-2006, 12:48 PM Danny, thanks for having another challenge. You're right, this is a compelling image and I found it fun to work on. The attached was done in Photoshop using the Impressionist PlugIn with your own djroil-24 style. I presume we are all limited to only one submission. Is this correct? Alan Nanls 03-07-2006, 04:08 PM Welcome back Danny. Wow, so far beautiful images-all of them. Good catch and thanks for asking, Alan. I just forgot to note that at the top. (fixed now) re: djroil24 For an accident, that's turned out to be a very handy style if I say so, myself. I'm honored you used it to create such a lovely piece. Kraellin 03-07-2006, 10:57 PM ok, here's my entry :) and for those that dont understand the reference, here's a link to the song lyrics: http://www.cdbfan.com/lyrics/dwdtg.htm craig chiroka 03-07-2006, 11:32 PM my variant of interpretation impressionist and photoshop Janet - well done!!! :dizzy: Janet Petty 03-08-2006, 04:04 PM Thanks for the comments all. I'm sure enjoying this thread. There are so many wonderful, creative, and well executed entries, that if it weren't random, I'd surely be hard pressed to choose one above another. Craig, is that term used to mean "smokin' " as in top-notch, fast fiddlin'? Cool idea. Janet byRo 03-08-2006, 04:42 PM As per StudioJ's observations I was turning the violin around (doesn't look too good the other way). So I played with the blending modes between the two versions and this little guy appeared in the middle. ..So then I touched "him" up a little. Rô Janet Petty 03-08-2006, 06:40 PM That is perfection Ro. You found the inner child. Janet raniday 03-08-2006, 08:21 PM Oh, my goodness! This is a classy, creative and beautiful thread, everybody! I think I could have painted faster with a real brush lol. :lmao: DannyRaphael 03-18-2006, 08:41 AM I think I could have painted faster with a real brush lol. :lmao:But you didn't have any painting supplies to buy nor any cleanup afterwards! Seriously, this is quite good and I'm genuinely impressed. Is the Paint Shop Pro effect you mention a clone-type effect or did you more/or/less free-hand trace this? ~Danny~ Cassidy 03-18-2006, 08:50 AM But you didn't have any painting supplies to buy nor any cleanup afterwards! Seriously, this is quite good and I'm genuinely impressed. Is the Paint Shop Pro effect you mention a clone-type effect or did you more/or/less free-hand trace this? ~Danny~ Yes is lovely fox Kraellin 03-18-2006, 10:34 AM danny, starting with Paint Shop Pro 9, i think it was, they added some vector painting brushes and tools. craig Fox54Black 03-18-2006, 10:46 AM Danny and Cassidy, thanks for the positive feedback. The art media tools in Paint Shop Pro 9 operate on a special layer above the background layer, and there are different kinds of media like oil, chalk, crayon, etc. Basically what happens is ever time you click on the mouse button, it clones the color from the background layer that you clicked on, and then you're stuck with that color for the rest of the stroke. Unlike Deep Paint where it keeps cloning more colors in the same stroke. Its really time consuming, but I guess if you put enough work into it, you could get some nice results. Kraellin 03-18-2006, 10:52 AM fox, Basically what happens is ever time you click on the mouse button, it clones the color from the background layer that you clicked on, and then you're stuck with that color for the rest of the stroke. that's only if you have 'trace' mode turned on...at least in Paint Shop Pro 10. 9 may be different, though. craig studioj 03-18-2006, 11:00 AM Of course this is not the violin you posted, but the subject it's CREATIVE INTERPRETATIONS: VIOLIN. So I'm a Luthier too, I found very creative what you have done with that pic, so I want to share some creative violins I where working with a laser cutting machine and the result it's attached. Someone could doit in photoshop, of course, but this is a Real Violin with a Real Shield Laser graved on it. Kraellin 03-18-2006, 11:22 AM danny, here's an art media 'crayon', both with just the art media layer and with the background layer turned on. craig Fox54Black 03-18-2006, 12:16 PM Nice work studioj. Do you play in an orchestra, or are you just interested in instruments? Craig, nice effect on that crayon version. studioj 03-18-2006, 12:50 PM I build violins for Orchestras, I don't say that I "Play" the violin, because profs do that, I just "sound" the violin, so I know to do all what professionals do with a violin, just don't play the same music as they do. I play with 2 guys in a Café, but nothing professional, also I play at church sylvia1065 03-18-2006, 01:30 PM Here's my entry, done with Photoshop CS2, Nik's pastel, Impressionist... As to the steps... boy, I was just playing around... I started by really increasing the saturation, then I used steps by Redwater (http://www.pbase.com/bluewatermonk/image/29209180), adapted them and added a layer of Nik's pastel. That's about it... Dave lkroll 05-14-2006, 11:57 PM Just playing with my dry brush technique; experimenting with sharpness in the mix. Of course I did some Impressionist simplication too, but that was just for esthetics. Here's (http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/2302/rpviolindb3id.jpg) a link to a higher quality version :) Also (with a lot of other things), here's a thread where I submited a portait (http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1006&message=18433958) example that I did yesterday using this techique; around a megabyte as a warning for those on dial-up. :) Swampy 05-15-2006, 08:29 AM My feeble attempt at trying to accomplish something "arty" with Painter. I don't know how I got this. DannyRaphael 05-16-2006, 12:09 AM umm, didnt we do this one in another thread? i distinctly remember doing a 'the devil went down to georgia' on this one. craigGood eyes, Craig. I didn't realize this had been (somehow) replicated. I sliced/diced and merged the two threads. ~Danny~ kiska 05-16-2006, 04:29 AM I THOUGHT it looked familiar. SA oil fingerpaint. Kraellin 05-16-2006, 11:59 AM thanks danny. i think i posted in the other errant thread as well. not sure if that one is still there or not. the title in that one did not match the submission. the title was something having to do with a boat, while the image was something completely different. maybe you already handled that one but if i see it again i'll point it out. craig patriciakay 05-17-2006, 11:14 AM Great renditions of this violin.... For mine i used ah oil brush in photoshop CS2. Mystical lighting and a border in psp9. Patricia... |
