About 20 years ago, a co-worker of mine left (escaped) from Romania. Sad to say, her parents were not able to leave the country and she has not seen them since. The attached pictures are the only ones that she has with her in it with a parent. As you can see, the father first took a picture of her with the mother and then they switched. I had seen them in an album she was showing me and as I am looking for more pictures to practice on (new to the game) she let me use them. I decided to see if I could put them together and then attempt to color the mating. As a novice, I would be most appreciative to any suggestions on how it turned out. When I gave her the mom and dad picture, tears of joy flowed down her cheeks and I received the best kiss of my life (do not tell my wife) and it was just a peck on the cheek. That day I rushed out and bought Katrin Eismann third edition to help me in my learning. Someday in the near future (I hope) I will be good enough to charge people for my services but no matter what the price, it will never top that kiss. Please feel free to try your hand at joining the two pictures as I would love to see other interpretations.

What a beautiful sentiment, Rich, and a brilliant job of it. I only deepened your colours and burnt the lighter hairline areas as they appeared a wee bit too light and jagged against the background. I didn't change anything else but to add the sunlight filtre from Photo Impact to deepen the top a bit. It still looks too light on my monitor even now and not quite rich enough.

The one comment I would make is that ‘flipping’ people over will alter their features. As you can see your friend and her Mom have become left handed.

I had a go. I kept Mom and Dad the same way round. I had to recreate Dad’s jacket but that was easy to copy>flip>paste from the other side.

great story and a gentle reminder to those of us who take our freedom for granted.

so i had a go at the picture of the mother. i'm not a great colorizer, but wanted to contribute to this one. so, i simply extracted mom from the original, set her on white, and cleaned things up a bit. perhaps someone else can use this to colorize with.

Wanted to keep the feel of the original, but with the Father in the picture, so didn't try to clean it up too much. Wanted to keep original BG.

Extracted Father from picture, duplicated, the extracted shirt and head. Flipped body and erased original head.

Placed in MOM picture and erased to fit. New layer, and cloned to hide joins and remove scratches and blemishes.

Adjusted contrast a little with levels.

Cropped to lose ragged edges.
