I did start out using EmbossWork's Ice White to start things off. Blended in the sky blue (Cyan) too. :) Steve Conway 04-02-2006, 12:24 PM You probably had to shoot this fast, as it looks too inviting to last long. Steve Steve Conway 04-02-2006, 12:52 PM Nice image...so here's another try. Steve Kraellin 04-02-2006, 02:59 PM great picture, wonderful colors. used my new 32 band gray with a blend mode of softlight, a bit of smudging and erasing to tweak. craig Photomaster 04-02-2006, 04:12 PM Steve, Your rendition in Post #3 is outstanding. Way to go! Steve Conway 04-02-2006, 04:51 PM Thank you sir.....very nice image, fun to work on. Steve Steve, Your rendition in Post #3 is outstanding. Way to go! Janet Petty 04-02-2006, 06:17 PM GREAT photo and great photo for playing with. I had so much fun with this one, tried all sorts of things before I got to here. Enjoy. Janet Compression took a huge toll on this one. Imagine ok. Thanks. kiska 04-03-2006, 06:04 AM Janet, I imagined the best. This is Studio Artisit 'flat region paint'. Janet Petty 04-03-2006, 08:46 PM Kiska, you are getting so very good at Studio Artist. I really like this one. It is bold, colorful, and a bit abstract. Great work. Janet Kraellin 04-03-2006, 10:02 PM i like that cracked paint look, janet :) had to have another go. a bit more wild this time. craig Legacy~Art 04-04-2006, 04:37 AM WOW Craig thats gorgeous!!! Legacy~Art 04-04-2006, 04:46 AM Well i tried the cutout plugin on the psp7 program on this picture to see how it would look then i added a canvas texture, not impressed really, as the cutout on Photoshop does it better, but its a okish picture i think! Swampy 04-04-2006, 07:33 AM Yummy photo, PhotoMaster! Wow, Craig. Love all the yellows! Ikroll, very interesting effect. I like it! Steve, Great job. Very subtile and effective! Janet, I don't think I've ever seen "Craq" applied so subtily! Very old world look Nice Kiska, especially like the cropping. --------------- I tried something different. I used "Select Color" to pick the highlights, midtones and shadows. I coppied each selection to it's own layer and applied a different Artistic filter to each, then mergered them all into a single layer. Took a snapshot then created a "Paper" texture layer for the background then painted back with the history brush from the merged textures layer. I ran the texture filter one more time on the painted layer and faded that back about 50%. Steve Conway 04-04-2006, 08:45 AM Thanks Swampy............(and...O.T....how 'bout them Gators?) Swampy 04-04-2006, 08:57 AM BASKETBALL SCHOOL!!!! They were really awesome, Steve! lkroll 04-04-2006, 10:00 AM And thanks for the comments as well. :) Kraellin 04-04-2006, 02:14 PM boy, two 'wows' from one post. i'm gonna have to go back and figure out what i did :) thanks legacy and thanks dee dee :) i do recall that when i applied the brush strokes to get those streaking effects, that i was a bit surprised at what it did. i had expected more damage to the fruit. i [i]think[/] what happened is that i had several layers on and i was dragging from a lower layer...mostly. this left the fruit mostly intact on the upper layer but the colors derive from the nearby fruits. and dee dee, i like that texture. sort of looks like it might have been painted on white, painted wood. very nice :) craig palms1 04-04-2006, 02:58 PM Great photo will need to find some time for another go, ran a couple of actions on this one Palms Swampy 04-04-2006, 03:23 PM Funky, Palms... :-) I like it lkroll 04-04-2006, 05:08 PM i like that cracked paint look, janet :) had to have another go. a bit more wild this time. craig This is a cool effect. :) dkcoats 04-04-2006, 05:28 PM Nice work, everybody. This was a nifty image to muck about with. I got a dark, subdued Old Masters kind of vibe from it so that's the direction I headed. I replaced the bg, futzed with color and hue/sat, and ddid some dodging and burning in Photoshop CS2, painted it into Gertrdudis Pro and went back to Photoshop for texture. Thanks to Photomaster for the pic. dc sylvia1065 04-04-2006, 07:14 PM Hi, Here's my version, done with a mixture of Redwater's technique, Nik's Pastel, Impressionist and a faint outline on top. Sylvia lkroll 04-04-2006, 08:09 PM Hi, Here's my version, done with a mixture of Redwater's technique, Nik's Pastel, Impressionist and a faint outline on top. Sylvia Favorite so far Sylvia; really like the gloss look that you achieved. Care to post some links to Redwater's technique? Thanks in advance. :) sylvia1065 04-04-2006, 08:20 PM Thank, Lkroll. As for the link to Redwater's technique, ;) , here goes: http://www.pbase.com/bluewatermonk/image/29209180 Have fun! Sylvia Kraellin 04-05-2006, 12:10 PM thanks, lk :) craig lkroll 04-05-2006, 05:21 PM Thank, Lkroll. As for the link to Redwater's technique, ;) , here goes: http://www.pbase.com/bluewatermonk/image/29209180 Have fun! Sylvia Very much appreciate the link Sylvia; just bookmarked it. :) msfrigyfrog 04-05-2006, 08:33 PM my grandfather used to use a jar similar to this to make what he called brandied fruit. as a kid i wasnt allowed to have very much because of the alcohol that the fruit produced as it fermented but we were allowed to have a little bit ( very little and no where near what we wanted ) on ice cream . unfortunately my grandfather passed on taking his recipe with him. he is the inspiration for my version of this image Kraellin 04-05-2006, 09:15 PM very cool, froggy. gotta love granddads like that :) craig Photomaster 04-06-2006, 09:34 AM Janet, Super job. Would look great on a ceramic tile and hung in my kitchen. Kiska, love your SA rendition. Craig, like your style. Colors really pop. Legacy, Swampy, very nice work. Frog, what a great idea. Nice sentiment. Kraellin 04-06-2006, 09:36 AM thanks, PM :) excellent photo to work with. craig Photomaster 04-08-2006, 01:59 AM Almost forgot: Sylvia, Beautiful work! reminds me of a Norman Rockwell DKCoats, Super job!! Shades of the Dutch Master works I saw in Amsterdam. borderline 04-10-2006, 12:35 PM I am working on writing a set of artistic filters and thought I would share some preliminary results. I am curious what you guys/gals think. I have been struggling with trying to figure out what makes a pastel image. I think the influence of the canvas and lack of full coverage (unlike oil painting) is part of it, as well as having slightly different colors. Here are two images. One is supposed to look like an oil painting, the other a pastel drawing... can you tell which is which, and are they convincing? Thanks for your input.. Swampy 04-10-2006, 01:02 PM I'm not an artist, but to me a pastel color is one that has been desaturated, or in the case of paints, white added. If you are painting in Photoshop and want pastel colors use the Saturation ramp in the color picker (The "S" of the H/S/B buttons). By default, Photoshop defaults to the H ramp. Below is a very saturated Blue selected from the H ramp. To the right, the same HUE of blue selected from the lower portion of the Saturation (S) ramp. dkcoats 04-10-2006, 02:48 PM Just to clear up some semantic confusion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pastels There are pastels, and then there are pastels. And thanks, PM, for the kind words. dc borderline 04-11-2006, 08:46 AM Yep, I am trying to simulate the pastel art media... but, I did do a bit of desaturation and brightening in order to convey some of the "pastel" colors typically used in pastel art... Tom Nicky666 04-11-2006, 11:13 AM Very nice picture. Just smoothed it a bit by applying a gaussian blur to a multiply overlay (ofcourse had to adjust the lighting after that), and added a border Fox54Black 04-13-2006, 06:40 PM This picture is perfect for manipulation. The second picture I made using the Art Media Pastel tool in Paint Shop Pro 9. Kraellin 04-13-2006, 09:17 PM nicky666, welcome to RetouchPRO. i like that :) craig lkroll 04-13-2006, 10:01 PM Some additional zing too. :) cardmnal 04-14-2006, 03:49 PM Applied the simple chalkoholic technique as demonstrated on the Lttle Ink Pot (http://www.littleinkpot.co.uk/FreePlugins.htm) site. Makes a nice little piece of work for such a simple task. Swampy 04-14-2006, 04:12 PM Very nice, Cardmnal! It's a great effect! patriciakay 04-17-2006, 02:18 PM Hello Photomaster...lovely fruit photo...thought i would have a go and used 2 Xero filters...illustrator and clarity and just put a border around it.. Great work everyone, its nice to see all your different interpretations... :bigthmb: Patricia  Stroker 04-23-2006, 10:05 AM Find Edges > Art History Chaulk and Charcoal C&C was a bit harsh in highs and low, so I manually Smudged a bit. One texture in highs/lows, different texture in midtones. Blending modes and opacity to taste. Kraellin 05-01-2006, 10:34 PM thought i'd revisit this one. did this in image analyzer with an edge filter, then some hand work back in Paint Shop Pro 10. craig klassylady25 05-02-2006, 07:41 AM WhenI saw that fruit it instantly reminded me of Carmen Miranda.... You gotta love her hats! Kraellin 05-02-2006, 12:36 PM lol, klassy. i remember her; the lady with the banana hats! hehehe. nice. craig RedWater 05-05-2006, 09:16 AM I was just told to have a look over here at this thread. Sylvia...Love the fruit! Thanks for passing on my technique! All the tutes are at http://www.pbase.com/bluewatermonk/tutorials sylvia1065 05-07-2006, 06:40 PM Hi Redwater, Welcome to this forum! Glad you don't mind I posted a link to your technique! I bet people will be interested in following your tutorials. Thanks to YOU for sharing them!!! Asy·lum - 2 : a place of retreat and security, SHELTER SHELTER? lol jch71566 05-09-2006, 12:11 PM Gave this one a good going-over with Impressionist, followed by Paint Engine, and a good helping of overlaied edges! -Jeff barbara 05-17-2006, 05:38 PM and here we can see, Ladies and Gentlemen, one picture made by postimpressionist artist.. ..an unknown one :bigthmb:  Kraellin 05-17-2006, 09:17 PM i thought i'd revisit our old polar coordinate technique on this one. not sure i remembered it correctly, but it's close :) craig Kraellin 05-17-2006, 09:31 PM hadnt played with tubes for a while :) craig Kraellin 05-17-2006, 09:39 PM always liked this image, so here's another. fruit explosion using dream suite's bonus freebies and a duplicated layer of screen. craig palms1 05-18-2006, 02:52 AM I take it Craig you were feeling a bit fruity yesterday ! I agree it is a good image. Like your fruit explosion, and your polar co ordinates it is like fruit within a fruit, and i admit i miss playing with tubes in Paint Shop Pro not quite the same in Photoshop Palms Kraellin 05-18-2006, 02:36 PM yup, but more depressed than fruity. mother is in the hospital and may not make it out. she's a remarkable woman. 85 years old, 4 heart surgerys in the last 10 years (one experimental), several skin cancer surgerys in the last 30 years, diabetes, chronic leukemia, and now a persistent lung infection which may stem from tuberculosis she had when she was 5 and from a very weakened immune system, and gave birth to and raised 8 kids. she has 31 grandkids and 4 great-grandkids with a 5th on the way. so, yesterday was a bit of a creative explosion, one to take my mind off things and two to take my mind off things. and thank you :) fun stuff. i originally was looking for my insect tubes but hit on these and liked them. i shld dress it up a bit more with some jungle stuff. would also be fun to animate a bit... have the elephant move a peach or something :) craig palms1 05-19-2006, 01:21 AM Craig your mom sounds like a damn good fighter my thoughts go to you and your family Palms patriciakay 05-19-2006, 02:17 AM Hello Craig, Love your 3 fruit pics, last one is my fave.... Sorry to hear about your Mum,I agree with Palms she is a real fighter....my thoughts are with you too... Patricia... oltenius 05-19-2006, 02:54 AM Bon appetit! :wavey: Kraellin 05-19-2006, 03:06 PM palms, yup, as one of my nieces put it lately, 'she's a tough, old bird.' :) and thanks :) patricia, thanks, i like that ghosting effect also. and thanks for the well wishes. she is doing a bit better now. she's out of intensive care and starting to get physical therapy, which she hates but seems to do her a lot of good. still problems, but a bit better. craig |
