Hi All,

I love the effect of this clipart:

What program/steps would produce the same results from a photo? Apparently this was created with acrylic, pencil and airbrushing.

Try Photoshop, and if you have CS or above, go to the filter gallery. Try different effects, then airbrush color and texture.

I didn't have the actual "before" apple, but here's what I did to my "after" apple

Duplicate layer
Run Filter - Find Edges - set this blend mode to Darken

Add a 50% gray layer set to Blend Mode of Overlay- Use this layer with a soft airbrush at about 50% opacity painting with black to add details in the stem area and a larger white brush to bring up the highlight.

I tried to get the illustration look a couple different ways...I will post the original (from stock exchange) and my 2 tries...if either one is close to what you are looking for post back and I will try to remember how I got there. I love old plant and animal illustrations. I used to buy old yardsale encyclopedias to cut them out for projects (yes, nerdy I know :dizzy: )

Right-- I knew we discussed something similar on DPReview a while back. I went over there to see if anyone remembered the thread because I had made it into an action back then, so I totally don't remember the steps at all. I make a few deviations from that workflow like skipping the hard light change and adding in a screen white layer blurred on low opacity after the layers are merged. Someone else was discussing something that involved the cutout filter somehow, but I don't think anything ever came of that...I wonder if this technique combined with the smudge type painting technique could yield something even a little closer to what we are looking for. Here is the link I was looking for on the other forum if you need it. It seems like a good jumping off point although it works better on some images than others.

also I do remember that workflow being somewhat sticky-- if you know how to attach an action and send it through I would be happy to do that...I am just not sure how it works!
