View Full Version : Therese 3 years old... patriciakay 04-12-2006, 04:15 AM Hi,
Thought i would post this old photo of Therese, my youngest stepdaughter, she is now almost 18..one of my favorites of her and i thought a change from the usual flower photos i post  enjoy... Ziaphra 04-12-2006, 06:23 AM What a lovely photo...considering it was blurred I thought to follow that route and make her into an angel. :) patriciakay 04-12-2006, 06:34 AM Hi Ziaphra,
This is lovely, i really like the angelic look you have given Therese....although her wings are a bit dirty now :lmao: .....welcome to Retouch...first time i have seen your name....hope you enjoy this site as much as i do...everyone is so helpful and the talent outstanding....Forgot to ask how you did it???? :dizzy:
Kind regards Patriciakay Xaran 04-12-2006, 07:27 AM Didn't have much time but here's my effort done in Photoshop and Painter.
Christine patriciakay 04-12-2006, 07:33 AM Hi Christine,
Didnt have much time....its a lovely painting :bigthmb: ....havent tried doing people yet only flowers....when you do have some time spare i would be happy if you told me how you did it????? Thanks..
Patriciakay Cassidy 04-12-2006, 07:38 AM Bit of painted look Ziaphra 04-12-2006, 08:58 AM Thanx for the welcome...sorry I should have given my steps. :) I use PaintShop Pro v9...I duplicated the layer, 25% gaussian blur of the new layer then set the blend mode to screen. Merged all layers and desaturated the background quite a bit. Swampy 04-12-2006, 09:17 AM Hi Ziaphra!
She was a darling little girl. Hope she grew up to be as beautiful! :-)
I'm still trying to get a handle on Painter. Auto Clone ->impressionist seems easy enough, but the rest is beyond me!!
Brought the Painter version back into PhotoShop and did a mild Gausian blur, Curves adjustment and a little texture. Added a mask and with the original photo underneath, painted some slight detail back to the eyes, hairline and a slight definition of the blouse to add interest to the bottom portion of the picture.
Kids grow up too fast! Steve Conway 04-12-2006, 11:09 AM Soft...kinda pastel or a close attempt.
Steve cardmnal 04-12-2006, 01:36 PM I llike the original. The slightly out of focus blurryness almost gives the image an oil painting feel.
My version was done with the art history brush. Peter S 04-12-2006, 03:19 PM Wasn't sure exactly what to do, then Ah make a puzzle.
Isn't there always one problem piece to fit????? lkroll 04-12-2006, 08:41 PM Too much fooling around to remember the steps. Impressionist was used (along with GIMP's bumpmap filter) for the textured paper. :) palms1 04-13-2006, 01:38 AM Pretty little girl, couldn't resist so used the ahb
Palms patriciakay 04-13-2006, 04:16 AM Cassidy,Swampy,Steve,Cardmnal,Peter,Ikroll and Palms1...Hi to you all and thanks for your lovely renditions of Therese...all different but each with their own special touch..... :bigthmb:
Sending you Therese at 17, she has grown up into a pretty girl...
Kind regards Patricia Steve Conway 04-13-2006, 11:15 AM In a "pick the baby picture" contest, I believe she would be easy to spot. Not a lot of changes in her features, except for the obvious maturity. 8-)
Steve Kraellin 04-13-2006, 10:01 PM ok, this may not work, so bear with me. let me know if you can see this or not.

Hey Craig. When I click on the image, it want's to download a .smo file. What is a .smo file (I guess I could do a Yahoo search; lazy tonight). :) Kraellin 04-13-2006, 10:35 PM lk,
thank you for letting me know.
the .smo is a smart morph file. so unless you have smart morph it wont do you any good. i'll have to fix that. hmmm, i think i converted the .smo's once before. i'll have to figure it out again.
thanks.
craig Kraellin 04-13-2006, 10:40 PM ok, try it again. i converted it to .gif animation.
craig
edit: ok, i changed the server to a remote one. i can view it now as well (cant view it when it's on my own computer... not from a web site, anyways).
so, it works :) lkroll 04-13-2006, 11:25 PM That's a keeper. :) Serissa 04-14-2006, 12:18 AM She sure was a cutie! palms1 04-14-2006, 01:20 AM Excellent Craig, worked fine for me and one of your best yet i think.
a smudged older Therese
Palms Kraellin 04-14-2006, 01:43 AM thanks lk and thanks palms :)
smart morph is one of those programs i absolutely love. i have a free version. not sure if there is pay for 'pro' version or not or if he takes or solicits donations, but he shld. it's a good program, fairly simple to use and gives as good results as the user input and operation. and there's no ads or nags within the program. if i continue to use it, i most likely will register and donate...if he does that.
oh, and the way i converted the .smo file was within smart morph itself. there is a 'save as movie' option that does it. i could have also saved in a number of other formats, including .avi.
craig patriciakay 04-14-2006, 03:57 AM Hi Guys...you have been busy....luv em all...
Steve......I agree the likeness is truly there and i like the drawing effect you have done of Therese..
Craig....Your transformation of Therese is amazing...you are soooo clever!!! :bigthmb:
I also have the free version of smart morph..but use it to merge different flower photos for a magical misty effect....didnt know you could do this...one day i might come back to you for a lesson... :lmao:
Serrisa....Just beautiful...love the lighting on her hair and how you have done her eyes...
Palms.....love this, your smudging is brill...you have really brought this photo to life...
Thanks to you all..
Patriciakay Steve Conway 04-14-2006, 08:11 AM Hey....you nailed that one. Worked for me without the changes you later made. Nice...nice...nice!
Do not want to sound picky, but it's so good I would slow the transition down a bit. It's over too quickly. Otherwise great stuff.
Gonna have to check on this program. What I am really seeking is a morph program that will age a person in an image. The feds and police use them to approximate what a person will look like as they get older.

craig Steve Conway 04-14-2006, 08:17 AM Thanks Patriciakay.
Enjoyed it. These drawings can be cleaned up to make the skin clearer, but it takes out a lot of the shadowing and highlights. So I try to not mess with it too much. Here is one that I did work on a bit.

Patriciakay patriciakay 04-14-2006, 08:38 AM Hi Steve,
Thanks for the second drawing, it is different from the first, think i like this one a little more....did you actually do it or use a filter??? Glad to see you are having fun with the photo...
Patricia  Xaran 04-14-2006, 08:54 AM Had a bit more time to spend on the first picture, did a bit of tidying of the skin and faded out the background. Duplicated the image and set the layer mode to screen at 35% opacity to lighten over all.
Christine Swampy 04-14-2006, 09:08 AM Lovely, Xaran! Steve Conway 04-14-2006, 11:55 AM Used a couple of Photoshop artistic filters, layering and painting.

Patricia  Kraellin 04-14-2006, 12:42 PM patricia,
thank you  and by all means, ask away re smart morph. it's actually pretty simple to use, even surprisingly so for the results one gets.
and steve,
thank you :)
as for slowing it down, i think the .gif version is slower. it also is looped so that it plays continuously backwards and forwards. the current frame rate is 15 frames per second because i wanted it to have a smoother transition between each frame. i've run into problems with these animations before where they wont play as fast when you put them on the web, so i wanted it fairly speedy for that reason as well. i could slow it down more. i could also make it larger. i cut the originals in half for file space conservation and speed. but in looking at it here on the web page now, it seems pretty good to me. still, it might be nice to be able to not only slow it down to see what she looks like at at '7', age '12' and so on, but to also pause it and take a snapshot of it. dont know how to do those last yet, but i'm sure it could be done.
as for aging software, there is some on the web. i think Cingular had a page up at one point that did that. you could upload an image and hit '10 years' or '20 years' and it would age the picture accordingly. now, why Cingular was doing this, i dont know. and i also think they took theirs down not too long ago. but there is at least one site that still does this....hang on, let me look for the page......
ok, here it is: http://www.dcs.st-and.ac.uk/~morph/Transformer/index.html probably not the best, but might be fun.
craig patriciakay 04-17-2006, 03:05 PM Hi Christine...just fantastic....Therese looks like a china doll....one day i would like to be able to paint like this  oh dream on!!!!!!
Craig thanks for all the info....just one question today...strange that i posted the older Therese with a similar expression..is this important when doing this morph thingy???? Of course the other 3 girls have seen the one you did and want me to have a go...... :dizzy:
Patricia Kraellin 04-17-2006, 04:14 PM patricia,
the closer the pose, the smoother the transitions will be. the program is pretty good, however, and seems to have been made for much odder images going from one to the other. you could even do a dog into a cat and it would work; it just wouldnt be quite as smooth as this one was. and if the dog and the cat were in similar poses and views to the camera, it would be better. it's a slick little program.
as for your other girls, ya just gotta grin :) show us the results when you get them.
and ya know, you could actually probably make a business of this ;) if a picture is worth a thousand words, then an animation is 1000 words per frame :)
craig patriciakay 04-18-2006, 03:11 AM Thanks Craig...having a photo hunt today see what i come up with...appreciate all your help.....might check in with you later...when..not if..i get stuck..
Patricia :dizzy: patriciakay 04-18-2006, 03:52 AM At last here is my try...xero filters...then a frames action....could anyone tell me what you use to clean up the face???? I did try but really didnt know what i was doing so its still dirty...ahhhhh
Patricia :pleased: Swampy 04-18-2006, 07:34 AM Good stuff, Craig!! Kraellin 04-19-2006, 07:48 AM thanks dee dee :)
craig Steve Conway 04-19-2006, 09:44 AM Thanks Craig, will check out the site you suggest re. the aging morph.
