For a change up, I thought it would be fun to start with a background and build up from there. So, given a clean slate....

Decoupage? Wood Burning? Brass Plate with award inscription?

Have fun!

Wonderful use of the wood's grain, Steve!

What blending mode did you use on the rain picture?

I used "soft light." Tried "overlay" but liked this version better.

Thanks.

Swampy has a great idea of posting plain bg's and /or texture. Allows for the use of images that wouldn't normally get posted.

What a fun challenge. Great job in creativity everyone.

And Family, ONLY 300 attempts. Sheesh, you are good.   Seriously, that does sound all too familiar.

Here is mine.

LOL I meant 300 attempts at getting the file to attatch, the pic itself took about 2 mins

WICKED CAT btw!

LOL Family, I'm just joking ya' know.

A bit about the "cat". Tis a bobcat. The picture was taken from about 3-4 feet away and without fences. This cat LOVED me, so well in fact the owner had to pry him off my lap so that others could see him too. I have several more shots of him close up as well. Ever have a 75 lb. cat lounge on your lap and purr? It was an experience I'll never forget.

Peter S... I didn't know Wacom ran that ad, musta been before my time. Good catch.

FamilyTree... Well done.. Is that a cat in the left foreground?

Janet.. Great choice of subject material to add to the wood! The texture really makes it special.

Xaran...Well done. Lots of depth in your "carving".

I would go for simply things with this wood.

On Air... Glad you didn't mount one of those talking fish on the plaque! LOL. Very nice. And yes, simple things do lend themselves to a wood burnt look IMHO.

What I want to know is why they dont have catfish as a talking fish. (sorry, i'm hooked on catfishing, big ones. ever have a 40 lb flathead on the other end of your pole?)

Everyones coming up with cool stuff.

FamilyTree... Well done.. Is that a cat in the left foreground?
I attatched a smaller version of the picture i used. (I took the picture myself, too bad horses dont stand still, i had a perfect shot of all 4 of them in the trees, but i got out of my car and they beat feet to me like i had a bag of carrots or something)

I used Little Ink Pot's Thredgeholder to get a nice sketch look and used different layers and overlay techniques.

I love domesticated bobcats. One of these days I'll either have a bobcat or a tiger. I got to pet a baby Siberian Tiger (my absolute favorite animal in the world) and have my pic taken with it, the guy had to take the picture 5 times cause Noah kept turning around and licking my face. Thank goodness he was only 6 months old, not full grown. His tongue was big enough lol.

The practical side of me  thinks this hunk of wood could make a fine game board.

Swampy

Wonderful, Cardmnal! Very well done! Yes... a great game board! :-) I particularly like the beveled depressions on both sides.

Clever.. really clever.

Great challenge Swampy,
Everyone has added their own ideas and they've all turned out great.

Steve - Very Very nice!!

Janet - Gorgeous bobcat pic, must have been a great experience

I used the wood to build a frame and then nailed that frame up over the singing fish toy! :)

Swampy

rrustic... I love the depth that the left edge of the poitrate adds. It's like the face is appearing from behind a curtain.

Ikroll... Great woodburn effect. I especially like the clock in the book case that adds a sense of the time deminsion... 7:30... (today? yesterday? morning, evening?). I love a mystery!

jay... Excellent choice of photo for the overlay! The woodgrain really texture to the sky. Well done! And thanks for covering up the talking fish.. LOL

ok, all these references to the singing bass toy got me remembering something... http://mizus.com/kraellin/bass_dab.exe :)

sorry, dont know how to make this work by just clicking it and having it run in a new window. you'll either have to download it and run it or if you know how to 'open with' from the save window, you can do that. but i've no knowledge of how to embed this to make it work directly.

Wow! Steve, Jaysmom, magic, classylady ... I forgot a couple...really nice. If I had a rainy day picture I'd be doing a Steve imitation right now. Just a beginner at this, but I promised myself that I'd always post no matter what, for the benefit of learning.

Couldn't figure out the nice wood carving/wood burning stuff. I couldn't pass up the 'stonger than oak' allegory (?). So when my wood carving came out flat and dull and decided to colorize. Not too happy about it. Cheesy and common.

Yours reminds me of Amish folk art. I especially like the resizing you did to the wood to fit the subject.

Steve Conway

You sure figured out something. Swampy is right, looks like Amish art.

Different, and really a goody!

Also thanks for the nice words re. my interpretation.

Well, it could be an extraction/composit in a digital imagaing program. Or it could be vanilla ice cream in a tall glass with Coca-Cola poured over it. :dizzy:
