I would like to isolate and change the color of a photo background. I don't want to change the whole background; I would only like to color half of it and leave the other half untouch . Can someone please tell me how and what procedures to use to accomplish this task. I have photoshop Cs2. Thanks.

I need a more specific description of what you're trying to do as it will affect the answer--posting an image would be even better. Are you trying to color trees and leave sky unaffected? Do you want to do a gradient--ie., top of sky a different color, but unchanged near horizon?

I agree with Bart in needing to know more about the image. Is it just a portrait with a plain studio backdrop, or is it an outdoor scene w/lots of detail? You may need to select out areas that you don't want to affect. If it's a simple shot, you could try setting your paint brush to color burn and go over the area you want to change. Then use the history brush to blend areas that you didn't want to go over with the color burn. If it's a complex image, with hair or leaves for example, you would probably have to make detailed selections on areas you don't want to affect.
