View Full Version : Creative Interpretations - Caladiums Swampy 04-23-2006, 01:41 PM Took this picture of caladiums in my yard. Paint it or punk it... have fun.
I ran some filters (you all know how you play and tinker with them and can't remember which ones?) I do remember distort->glass. The matt and and frame from PhotoFrame. Frank Lopes 04-23-2006, 02:14 PM This one is called Waterlogged Kraellin 04-23-2006, 02:14 PM way cool and i love the framing too, dee dee.
craig Nanls 04-23-2006, 02:17 PM Very nice, both of them and love the frames. Are those actions?
Thanks,
~Nancy~ Frank Lopes 04-23-2006, 02:19 PM Mine is not. I cheated... I used Alien Skin Splat for the frame.
Very nice, both of them and love the frames. Are those actions?
Thanks,
~Nancy~ Swampy 04-23-2006, 02:22 PM Good one Frank
Thanks, Craig
Nan... My frame is from a package called PhotoFrame by onOnesoftware. (http://www.ononesoftware.com). I just got the upgrade and love the realistic frames and mattes. They have some tutorials (QuickTime, I think) and 30 day demos of all their stuff. Frank Lopes 04-23-2006, 02:25 PM I don't see PhotoEdges in their website... only something called PhotoFrame Pro
Is this product?
Good one Frank
Thanks, Craig

I also have the other package called PhotoEdges, but it's for OS 9-Mac and I never upgraded. lkroll 04-23-2006, 04:54 PM Sort of went Gouche on this; a thick watercolor that is. Hope you all like it. :) Swampy 04-23-2006, 05:01 PM Ikroll
It's bright and colorful. Like the slight touch of texture. Steve Conway 04-24-2006, 09:37 AM Ah!...the Caladiums are in bloom again! Nice crop D.D.
Steve Swampy 04-24-2006, 11:54 AM Yes they are, Steve and a very nice boquet from you!
Love the way you desaturated the background! Sure brings out their color! Steve Conway 04-24-2006, 12:11 PM Thank you...now if I could just get the deer to stop feasting on my Hydrangeas. 8-)

Love the way you desaturated the background! Sure brings out their color! Janet Petty 04-24-2006, 12:21 PM I have such a black thumb that the most I can hope to accomplish regarding the flora I love is to either photograph or paint. These Caladiums are marvelous. My hat goes off the Swampy for sharing her beauty with us.
This is my humble try.
Janet palms1 04-24-2006, 02:07 PM lovely plants unfortunately our only option is as a houseplant,
isolated a few leaves changed background , smudged, and sharpened
palms Swampy 04-24-2006, 04:46 PM Janet, soooo soft and pretty! Very well done. Great job covering up a kinda weedy background.
Palms, Love the smudge job. I still haven't figured out that technique. Is it tedious? I'll have to find the tutorial.
Great work, people! familytreephoto 04-24-2006, 06:55 PM Thank you...now if I could just get the deer to stop feasting on my Hydrangeas. 8-)
Steve

craig familytreephoto 04-25-2006, 12:16 AM How pretty, Dee Dee..

lol my names Sarah, :bandit: i figured i'd put a dee dee tag on it since u took the photo in the first place.
glad u liked it tho :square: Kraellin 04-25-2006, 01:03 AM dont recall all the steps, but one of the first was to run the 32 band gray and darken some things. then a screen blend over the original and copy merge to new layer. there was a curves in over the top of that somewhere and a hue/sat, both to bring out the reds mostly. after that it was mostly hand painting in the drip.
craig Swampy 04-25-2006, 06:53 AM Very nice, Craig. You really captured the colors. palms1 04-25-2006, 12:08 PM thanks for the comments
Is smudging tedious? no but infuriating to get the hang of till a few things click into place if you have'nt seen this tutorial give it a whirl ( he has a new tut coming out soon) also i think he is a member here .

craig kiska 04-26-2006, 10:19 AM Painted in SA. Photoshop for glass filter, masked and aniso. Swampy 04-26-2006, 12:09 PM Brillian, Kiska! Also love the rotation. patriciakay 04-27-2006, 01:56 PM Hi Swampy,
Here is my try at your lovely plant,we can only grow theses indoors as the winter is far too cold...
I used curves and then xero filters, crumpled and framed in pspx..
Love all the renditions you have received so far...i am partial to Palms1s smudging and Kiskas painting....terrific.......
PatriciaKay Swampy 04-27-2006, 06:52 PM Patriciakay, dark and mysterious...lovely. Kraellin 04-27-2006, 11:49 PM i like that too, kiska. the rotation was an unusual but inspired choice. love the free look of the painting.
patricia,
great shadowing and color mix. wasnt sure about your poster board framing choice at first cause i wanted to see the picture up close more, but the more i look at it, the more it grows on me :)
craig kiska 04-28-2006, 01:48 AM Thanks guys!! patriciakay 04-28-2006, 09:13 AM Thanks Swampy..
Craig i wasnt sure either about the frame...so saved it and kept having a look...it grew on me ...so to speak..thanks for your comments too...
Patricia Kraellin 04-28-2006, 11:23 AM patricia,
well, the color is right and i like the inner border. it's the size of the frame and the different sizes of top/bottom and right/left that bugs me a bit. even 'bugs me' is too strong. it's more of a 'curious about', like when you cock your head and look again :)
craig patriciakay 04-28-2006, 11:42 AM Know what you mean Craig...found the frame in Paint Shop Pro....dont know why its not symetrical???? Ah well i will look more closely next time.....got me thinking now...
Patricia :dizzy: Krisse 04-28-2006, 11:49 AM Hi Swampy and the others!
I decide to add my tryout as well. The result is mixing of different filters and layer modes.
I like to ask your promise to use this work on my website. That would be handy as adding screenshots for the layers as well. It's coming sort of portofolio. I'm having assignments site for MyJanee.com and I like to make a new one for the tryouts I'm doing in here. Take a look and tell me what do you think of my idea. I may add your link below the work if you like. Swampy 04-28-2006, 01:12 PM Krissie, Very nice! A good blend of realism and "artsy". Feel free to use your version on your web site. barbara 05-16-2006, 05:09 PM I used Gimp.
I hope, it is something like watercolor.. Swampy 05-17-2006, 06:33 AM Very nice, Barbara. It is a great watercolor. It would look lovely framed and hanging in a garden room. barbara 05-17-2006, 05:41 PM thanks, Swampy  oltenius 05-18-2006, 02:05 PM Very nice flowers... I hope that my attempt is 50% of success! :bawling:
Regards Swampy 05-18-2006, 02:30 PM Oltenius... I see in my crystal ball that you have well rendered the caladiums. :-0
Fun effect oltenius 05-18-2006, 04:12 PM Swampy, thank you... but I dont know if my attempt is a demon or a God transferable inspiration :knockedou CathyH 05-19-2006, 02:19 PM palms1, I like the way you brushed the leaves. They are very pretty.
