Have fun!

(Note: This was originally a 'contest' thread with a specific end date. Even though the contest is now closed, you can still try your luck manipulating the base image.

nor a Wacom. Here's my entry anyway (I did do some mouse smudges here and there). A better quality image can be found here (http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/713/rpstx47787765tf.jpg); the attached image was set to a quality of around 37% or so to keep it within size budget. :)

I have to admit, even tho I have Painter Essentials2 I used Deep Paint for this with a little bit of work in Photoshop (the frame obviously and an additional layer for a slight boost of the details).

Hope you like it :)

Photoshop. before I forget, the frame idea is "borrowed" from Pam ;) *bows deep*

Danny, don't put me in the contest since I won the last time. Just wanted to play with this lovely boquet of roses. :-)

Enlarged the canvas area.

I brought in a black and white version of an Illustrator file for the big "R". (Wanted to play with smart objects in Photoshop CS2) and placed it over the roses with blend mode set to multiply. Some of the roses fell outside the border of the "R" graphic so I used a mask to paint those areas out.

Added a PhotoFrame matte on a new layer (rotated in PhotoFrame), but it wasn't black enough so Ioaded it as a selection and filled with black. Inverted the selection and stroked the inside path gold.

Added a black fill layer below everything to fill in the inside of the frame.

Added the "Roses" Text.

I don't have painter, but I took a crack at it just the same:

Added a layer in color burn blending mode, filled it with white and painted the roses with a soft, black, 5% opacity brush to bring out the color.

Touched up the 2 bottom red roses to bring it more inline with the rest of the red roses...

Miscellaneous touch ups here and there to make it more natural looking...
Like something that just came from the garden...

Let me proceed with the statement: "Don't enter me in the contest". I just do this for fun!

Started off adjusting color/contrast w/ Paint Shop Pro tools.

Used a double-dose of Impressionist: JCH VanGogh! (with 30degree instead of 0degree start angle).

Followed up with a saturation enhancement.

Finished off with duplicating the layer, using a "Lighten" blend mode, and gaussian blur of ~5pix.

Enjoy!

I don't have painter (yet) so I did this with Photoshop. First I cloned in the flowers that were off the edge, then i used some filters to give it some texture.
I used water color and paint daubs. then added a background with textures.
add noise, then bevel and embose then some motion blur. Too much to remember. I also cloned some of the flowers onto the edge and set the blend mode to screen.

-resized bigger and cropped to focus on just a couple flowers
-added contrast
-copied the background and made a variety of layers with colors and effects I liked..
difference clouds, an Impressionist watercolor, lineart, and one layer I'm not sure what I did! saved this as a photoshop file with all the layers.

-opened in Painter and cloned, first clearing the canvas to white.
-painted a number of layers with a variety of watercolor brushes (set to clone), going back to the original photoshop file hiding and adjusting merge modes to paint from, depending on what I wanted to add to the watercolor painting.
-dropped all layers, equalized added somemore texture and cropped again.

I used Gimp : blended some simplified (by erode, dilate, selective
Gaussian blur, posterize) layers, bumped (to imitate oil painting)
and then added a touch of canvas texture in some places only :pleased:

Hi ya'll ....Long time no see!!!!! :wavey:

Ok here goes. I had to have a shot at this contest.

I used Paint Shop Pro v8 for this and nothing else. I started by resizing the image Danny posted for use. Once I had that finished I ran a color sketch script I made a few years ago. Next I used a custom paint brush effect I made up then once I had that finished I desided to see what it might look like if I added a custom pincel effect I created. Ok and after all this I desided that it might add a little more by giving the plain white background a little something so I click on the brush tool and selected a custom marble brush and set the color to a lite gray and added a little hump to the background.

Last I added the black edge and saved for posting here.

Enjoy,
TwoLaidBack

Congratulations to Nancy (Nanls) , our picked at random winner.

================

I noted sylvia1065's comment, "...I'm waiting for my prize to learn Painter."

Since I have an extra copy of Jeremy's book, I'm going to send that one to her as inspiration to take the Painter leap. :)

Have fun.

Thanks to all who participated. There were some especially creative entrires this time.

I'm late. I'm late...for a very important submission. But not really. This tapestry took so long to weave that I've only now just finished it.

Shhhhh, besides it isn't contest material (get the joke) to begin with. I know I'm lame. Blame it on lack of sleep.

Janet

P.S. I know what it looks like and that most are going to go ewwww. It was an experiment to see if I could make a picture look like a weaving technique I've seen used in the past. It also looks better full sized.

MargaretM

Heh heh Janet - what's life without a little risky material!
I was wondering about the shading in your weave. Looks like maybe you used drop shadow effect? I have used a pillow emboss on this kind of thing to give a 3-D look - worked pretty well.

Janet

I rember one of my early projects in RetouchPRO was to try to get a woven texture effect on some orchids.

I used one texture for the background and a different for the orchids then added a little bevel/emboss to the flowers.

I just can't remember which texture I used. It might have been 'linen".
