View Full Version : A challenge Frank Lopes 04-29-2006, 12:20 PM This is "Old Boston's City Hall".
It was shot by my son 2 weeks ago and my wife made the comment: That is a lovely building, it is a shame that the 3 dead trees cover most of the facade.
That got me thinking: what if ....
The mission, if you decide to accept it, is: remove the three leafless trees in front of the building. Adjustments are ok. But leave the rest of the visual elements in place: people, cars, plants, buildings etc.
The goal is to reach a point where one would not be able to tell that the trees were ever there. But everything else is left intact.
There are no votes or prizes: just for fun!

Thats going in "my photo's to play with" folder, for when I have time on my hands. Kraellin 04-29-2006, 01:32 PM i agree with chris ... "...for when I have time on my hands." a LOT of time :) it's quite do-able, but is going to take some work.

Just don't have that sort of time available at the minute, but I'm sure I'll be doing it bit by bit, whenever I have the odd few moments spare. Frank Lopes 04-30-2006, 09:31 AM OK OK OK... I get the message: it is a though one :-)
Here is a simpler challenge, hopefully just as much fun:
put this bench in an environment that strikes your fancy. Everything goes as long as the bench is in it. Make it so it appears like it belongs there.
Just try to make it realistic: a bench on the surface of the moon wouldn't be considered realistic :-)

Steve Frank Lopes 04-30-2006, 10:29 AM It is more than just the bench, but it works for me...
How about a sketch on a brick wall?
Steve Kraellin 04-30-2006, 12:33 PM ok, here's the top part of the building. i may do more later or if someone else wants to take this and do the next floor, why ok :)
this was from the enlarged image, so this attached, even though it's only a portion of the building, is still fairly large. thus, compression had to be 37% giving a bit of .jpg artifacting.
craig Frank Lopes 04-30-2006, 01:41 PM Very nice!! Now let's see the windows :-)

craig Steve Conway 04-30-2006, 02:59 PM ......this bench in an environment that strikes your fancy. Everything goes as long as the bench is in it.
Did I mis-read you?
Steve Frank Lopes 04-30-2006, 03:27 PM Not at all... it was intended to be "tongue in cheek" ... it just didn't come across that way... :-)
Did I mis-read you?
Steve Steve Conway 04-30-2006, 03:54 PM OK, here's your bench, all alone in the woods.
And no, I don't know how it got where it is or why it's where it is. 8-)
Steve Kraellin 04-30-2006, 09:34 PM Very nice!! Now let's see the windows :-) umm, which windows? ;)
craig klassylady25 04-30-2006, 09:48 PM I only see 3 that are just waking up from their long winter's nap....... :pleased: bart_hickman 05-01-2006, 12:12 AM Wow, this is a weird coincidence. We went for a hike today and this is what we saw at the trailhead! :ditsy:
Bart Gary Richardson 05-01-2006, 02:03 AM That bench really gets around. I could have sworn I saw it in Vail last year, when it was on vacation. Frank Lopes 05-01-2006, 07:48 AM Well... dead was a bit of a stretch :-) .... those are the ones
I only see 3 that are just waking up from their long winter's nap....... :pleased: Frank Lopes 05-01-2006, 07:52 AM Well placed... it fits right in... except that the sign shadow is under the bench...

Bart
Isn't a little dangerous a bench on the road? :-)

Steve klassylady25 05-01-2006, 10:31 AM Maybe that bench is the replacement for Dr. Who's phonebooth! LOL Gary Richardson 05-01-2006, 11:27 AM Isn't a little dangerous a bench on the road?
That section of road is behind a barrier, pedestrians only. PeteyB 05-01-2006, 12:39 PM I saw the bench on the cross country track Aged .. with a touch of color retained. Peter S 05-01-2006, 05:28 PM Well I've seen it at Culzean Castle and at the Forth Rail bridge in Scotland, and also visiting the local deer park. Gets around for a bench. Frank Lopes 05-01-2006, 06:21 PM I love the one in front of the castle!!!
And it is obvious both the hand and the gentleman with the red jacket were impressed to :-)

Well you know benches any chance for a photograph and they'll Pose Pose Pose. Peter S 05-02-2006, 01:49 PM Just thought of a challenge for you Frank.
Take the trees out of your Boston Picture and transplant them by the castle. Without killing them in the process of course. Love it :bigthmb:
Thanks Jeronimas! Kraellin 05-03-2006, 12:35 AM lol. am i the only one working on the original post here? ;)
craig Frank Lopes 05-03-2006, 07:03 AM Seems that way... the others didn't have the guts...

If you are really prepared to do this. I take my hat off to you, I would not know where to start. (though the Pub seems the best to me on second thoughts)
Peter :clown: Swampy 05-03-2006, 05:17 PM I saw the bench down at the alligator farm. My friend refused to sit on the bench while I took the picture. Frank Lopes 05-03-2006, 05:48 PM I wonder why... was something wrong with bench?

Peter :clown: Frank Lopes 05-03-2006, 07:09 PM I apologize for the rather drastic pruning job. It was either that or the trees
wouldn't survive the trip across the pond.

Well it is a long way. Well done for trying- better than I would have done.
Just one observation, the gardeners there must be very tidy , not a dead leaf on the ground. :dizzy: |
