Ride 'em cowboy! Lightened in Photoshop, then did background in Painter with smeary camel cloner. Painted detail with the soft cloner. Then applied image luminance and paper texture. Framed with an action from Adobe Studio.

froggy,
loved the barbed wire framing.

klassy,
loved the frame on this one too. interesting style. would have loved a bit more definition on the figures.

steve,
straight out of a marlboro commercial. nice :)

dee dee,
excellent extraction!

margaret,
nice frame. good soft tones. could have been 1906 instead of 2006. very nice :)

I agree Craig. Great background Swampy and we all know extracting cows is not that easy. Sometimes I need a gun trained on me to get back to work instead of playing with RetouchPRO images. Good work everyone.

Lot's of things. I will say, for the strokes, I added noise before running Photoshop's angled stroke filter. Since my steps seem to go everywhere, I can only list the filters used: Toadies Metalwork, Impressionist with Cezanne preset, Eye Candy with Jiggle preset, Paint Engine with @Wetter2 preset, DCSpecial's 1969 filter set to Value (in GIMP of course). :)

Thought some of you out there would appreciate Paladin coming on the scene. One of my all-time favorites.

B.T.W. Craig, the complete first three seasons of that show are now out on DVD.

I love it dk. I've been practicing with this style and having hard time with the backgrounds. You did a great job and re-inspired me at the same time.

Thanks, guys.

Janet - actually the background in this pic--and pretty much every other thing I've done along this line--is just filter>render>clouds, as you can probably tell. And as you know there are some artists over at that other place who've taken this style to heights I can only aspire to.

Janet, I was struck with how you took hard working cowboys and rendered them so well in such a soft manner. I do like it.

Waht a fun image - thanks Janet.

Learned a lot doing this - mostly what not to do.
Maybe someday I'll have another try.

- Cropped in Photoshop.
- Bristle cloner in Painter.
- Finishing up in Photoshop.

(next time I'll separate the background in Photoshop, before going to Painter)

Grew up around the rodeo --- the clowns fascinated me - thought I'd try this one using the sketch method. Wanted just a single rider so here's what I came up with. We really got a lot of different styles on this one didn't we?

There are so many nice interpretations here. I used CS3 art history brushes and then added texture, and edge.
