View Full Version : klassylady25's transparent butterfly Kraellin 05-05-2006, 11:43 PM ok, this image comes from klassylady25, who posted it originally in the 'honey' thread. i 'threatened' her that if she didnt make it a separate art challenge that i would. she said post away! so, here it is :)
it's a great picture of an unusual butterfly. she had two pics of this insect. i chose the one with splash of color for this thread.
have fun and make sure you say thanks to klassylady25 :)
craig lkroll 05-06-2006, 12:40 AM I did vector simplication using Autotrace. I blended the various vector layers in Mayura adding the line outer trace for the B layer (I created 4 vector layers listed A through D). I then exported the bitmap into GIMP and did bumpmapping. Added Toadies Metalwork to the blend and some additional lighting effects via the GIMP and done. :) palms1 05-06-2006, 03:24 AM Glad you went ahead and posted this Craig (and thank you Klassylady2 ) it is a unusual butterfly and very pretty
Ikroll your stained glass is great
I had trouble with this one, i am happy with the butterfly but not when it is on its own, so added flower and not happy with that will have to put my thinking cap on later
Palms kiska 05-06-2006, 04:14 AM Studio Artist and Photoshop for blends and masks. Steve Conway 05-06-2006, 08:11 AM Nice image Craig. When you see an image this good it's hard to do much to improve it. But here's a quick manip.
Steve Kraellin 05-06-2006, 09:40 AM you guys are good. i only posted this yesterday and already four responses.
lk,
i like the contouring effect. it sort of extends the theme of the paned butterfly wings.
palms,
if it aint done, den it aint done :) i still kind of like it, though. look forward to the finished version :)
kiska,
nice impressionist type. i like how the background looks sort of like waves of paint.
and steve,
i agree about it being hard to improve, but you seem to have done so. nice 'van gogh' sort of look. very well done!
i had a go also. added a gradient fill layer on top of the duped original and simply erased bits here and there at various opacities of the erase. did a little hand touchup with push to finish.
craig Steve Conway 05-06-2006, 11:48 AM Thanks Craig. And as for your version, don't know why, but I keep looking for CHANEL #5, (or similar), written across the bottom somewhere. 8-) Good one!
Steve

craig Verywierd 05-06-2006, 11:56 AM Here is my attempt using Photoshop, sort of minimalist. Swampy 05-06-2006, 12:37 PM Gee, Craig... here's what I epected from you...
Nice Photo, Klassylady. palms1 05-06-2006, 12:41 PM Very good Swampy, and in my books 10/10 for knowing Craig ( he has got a bit of a reputation hasn't he ? )
Palms lkroll 05-06-2006, 12:48 PM Gee, Craig... here's what I epected from you...
Nice Photo, Klassylady.
Yup; Craig slipping on us. :lmao:
I like them all. Have to get ready for a concert (play Clarinet) at the park in about 45minutes, so I hope to see more when I get back. :) Kraellin 05-06-2006, 04:46 PM steve,
if Chanel wants to buy it, i'd be happy to sell it to them :)
very nice, veryweird :)
dee dee,
very cool!
the trick was to get you guys to copy my style. so, i win! ;)
craig Swampy 05-06-2006, 04:57 PM Palms... I got him pegged! :classic:
Hey, Craig, No one can copy your style, hon. You're in a class all your own and that's why we love ya. Actually, I wanted to do your thing before you came back with a second version.. Cyber Cat 05-06-2006, 07:14 PM stained-glass window came to mind...
thanx for the beautiful photo lkroll 05-06-2006, 07:26 PM stained-glass window came to mind...

craig Frank Lopes 05-07-2006, 12:04 PM Sometimes less is more...
ok, this image comes from klassylady25, who posted it originally ...
craig Drach 05-07-2006, 01:37 PM First used cutout to reduce the color palette and then painted in Deep Paint using slightly modified crayons..
Btw, Frank.. yours is really cool :bigthmb: Kraellin 05-08-2006, 12:22 AM frank,
interesting. i had rotated the original to the right once while looking for something to inspire me. somehow the wings looked wrong when i did it, but in your version it looks right. nice :)
drach,
nice. that 'pitting' reminds me of some paintings done on metal i saw years ago.
craig Frank Lopes 05-08-2006, 07:19 AM Kraellin & Drach
my original intent was to make a stained glass window with it.
The first thing that I did was rotate the image and clean the JPG artifacts.
Then I noticed that Cyber Cat had already taken that road, so it meant that I would have to come up with something different. But the "muse" wouldn't talk to me... :-(
Once it was clean and rotated, I thought it looked natural so I decided to leave it alone. Kraellin 05-08-2006, 12:20 PM thanks frank :)
has anyone else noticed anything a bit odd about the wings? (the original picture). every picture on google of this type of butterfly has the same thing. see if you can spot it.
craig Swampy 05-08-2006, 02:11 PM Left and right are of a different size. Only the one wing has color markings.
? Cyber Cat 05-08-2006, 05:29 PM Craig, odd thing to me was .................second set of wings missing Frank Lopes 05-08-2006, 08:51 PM A different stained glass window... klassylady25 05-08-2006, 09:16 PM Swampy, I have to give you credit for the most unusual. It made me think of the Twilight Zone.
I've enjoyed them all. Craigs and Franks, Cyber Cat and lkroll.... beautiful and those I didn't type the names of. You've done this picture proud.
Hugs to all....
Candy (klassylady) Kraellin 05-08-2006, 10:16 PM cyber cat has it right. what you're seeing is only one wing. the other is hidden. yup, this threw me at first too. i did manage to find another pic of this type of butterfly where you can see the outline of the other wing. the attached is the other of klassy's (i hope) which shows the other wing.
very nice, frank :)
thanks, klassy :)
craig Swampy 05-09-2006, 07:27 AM Thanks, Klassy.. :-) Ziaphra 05-10-2006, 11:01 AM Here's my try...don't ask me to remember the steps! :P Dan Ryan 05-10-2006, 11:10 AM Here is one of many. Kraellin 05-17-2006, 10:03 PM here's another. Fast Fix plugin to wow the colors and saturation, duped, desaturated with Fast Fix and duped. ran 32 band gray plugin with a wild mix, some blend modes and a very heavy digital camera noise removal.
craig patriciakay 05-18-2006, 12:16 PM Thankyou klassylady for the lovely photo and also to Craig for posting it..
Lots of interesting renditions have been done....
Heres mine dark and dramatic.....I used amphi softs, artifactor filter...
Patricia... :wavey: palms1 05-18-2006, 01:37 PM Nice one Patricia , but as it is dark does this make it a moth ?
