Does anyone have experience with the Canon LIDE 500F. I am looking for a very portabale scanner that can be carried in a briefcase or backpack for airline travel. Use would be to scan photos for later PP.

I also can't find the Dynamic Range the 500F is rated.

If anyone has recommendations for like scanners, it would be appreciated.

thanks,

ken

I have one of those and I am happy with it. It scans both prints and negs quite well. I have noticed that the scans tend to come out a bit dark/ oversaturated (esp reds) but that can be tweaked around easily. Supports up to 48bit colour in/out with a decent tonal range and gamut. Resolution is mostly good (2400x4800dpi optical) however I have occaisionally had some minor banding artifacts at max res. It scans negs quite well too, only one at a time though which I find tedious. I love that it runs on USB power also and it is not that heavy to lug around.
