Actually, this grand old hotel is a sleeping giant on the National Register of Historic Hotels. Located in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, the Crescent Hotel was built in 1886 for those who used the area for the hot springs and mineral waters.
Enjoy artifying folks. The day I was there, my poor, dirty, humble car was parked next to a shiny new Corvette and a (gulp) brand new Ferrari. Talk about being outclassed!

This is a mish-mash of Paint Engine settings based on the OWetter2, Watercolor2 presets, in an attempt to get a watercolor look -- which I obviously overkilled. As with real watercolors, edge detail is difficult to maintain when the (digital) paint runs together. But it was fun playing.

BTW: Parked next to your car would have been my 1960 Dodge station wagon, complete with faded, pale green paint and Push-button Drive (in lieu of a column shift lever.)

Mine i did with the ahb in photoshop CS2...then a niks color effect, polarize..DC beyond edger to get the outlines..

Janet, your swell photo brings back memories. When I was visiting my Arkansas rellies along with my grandmother about 40 years ago, my aunt, I guess it was, took us up to Eureka Springs. I don't remember seeing this old place but I do remember another hotel in town that had five stories, as I recall, each with a ground-floor entrance. Strange place, indeed.

Aunt and of course grandmother are long gone and I'm sure I wouldn't recognize Bentonville if I ever saw it again...

Patricia, thanks. Blue color sky and the rest of your artwork is wonderful.

I selected various areas of the photo in quick mask mode, copied the selection(s) to a new layer and ran various texture effects on each one (wall, grass, house, leaves etc). I used the history brush to paint in a texture (done on the entire image) of the sky.

Used the history brush from the original photo state to paint back in the flowers and some gaps created by some of the rough selections.

You would ask Patricia. Anyway, in GIMP, I started out (on a duplicate layer) running Flaming Pear's Mr. Contrast. I then set the result to GIMPressionist with graphite_2 preset (a few mods due to the small size of the photo). I then additionally sharpened the piece and set the Layer to Value. I flattened and opened the result in Photoshop for some additional Impressionist blends (CarolH's Fine Brush that is). Can't remember the exact remaining steps (never do), but they involved some selective dodging and smudging and well as saturation/color adjustments. :)

Hey, at least your car is considered a classic. Mine is just a 10-year-old Civic that spends most of its life on a dirt road.

It's pretty cool that no installation is required to use it though. By the way, most Photoshop filters will work in GIMP (the previews will not necessarily though unfortunately). :)

thanks for nice comment. I use only Gimp. After some testings of
other image-editor-software I choose Gimp. Why ?
Because I use Open Source Linux as OS. Only. So I prefer Open Source software.
In this case I have right to see source code of each application, I can change it if I want,
that is my user-right. So I can learn, change etc, I can compile each source code
(compiling means translate to binary form understood by computers).
So I am a bit "independent" :happy: , I can change things and it is my right, it is legal and
guaranted by GNU Licence. I like it :happy: and enjoy :happy:
