Cool thx... hehe...rainbow lorikeets...got lots of those 'round my place. Fell asleep on the deck the other day only to be woken up soon by one of the cheeky buggers (noisily) helping himself to the scraps on the plate in my lap

Hey, doesn't anybody want to play??

Janet, missed you, thanks so much for the warm welcome! I've been away from RetouchPRO far too long... Yesss, i love my new little nikon, got me a tele-lens 55-200 too!
Ikroll, your bold, sketchy effect is very nice! Craig, Janet, Littlecoo, where are yours? Come on guys, give it a try!
I'm posting my first 3. Hope you like them.

...especially the giraffe. I just wish I could find a plugin that can give that sketch draw feel like you did for this one (you all know how lazy I am). :)

Not a very good watercolor I know. I suppose I could have done a little less cropping and kept some image quality but I didn't. So now we have an watery, abstracted bird. :lmao: :lmao:

cheetahs are one of my favorite big cats... from a distance. but this was just a bit too distant. so, i quadrupled the image size, cropped it, enchanced it and did just a touch of artifying so we could all see these amazing creatures a bit better.

again, thanks judy :)

Great shots, Jaykita. Love the jungle theme!

Various techniques. Some History Brush, Some Dry Brush filter. Lots of HSB adjustments for different effects in the different renderings.

Thank you. I created a selection of the bird. Inversed it and used that selection to paint the background on a blank layer. Then I inversed it again and painted the bird on a new blank layer. Finally, I duped the background layer and used the glowing edges filter, inversed it and desaturated it, and moved it on top of the stack, and changed the blend mode to soft light. I used byRo's brushes.

I would appreciate any suggestions for how to improve my technique.

Just feeding my current binge. For those who have highspeed internet, click here (http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/411/61217182lionfishyy5.jpg); you won't regret it. Attached is a much lower quality downsampled version. :)

That is super lkroll (you really do need to see the detail in this) I guess it is going to be a plug in/filter ?

hadnt played with displacement maps in a while. thought i'd give it a shot here. the 'target' image is from the 'take your pick' collection, one of the sea shots.

nice mosaic, lk!

Thanks Craig. I haven't really played too much with displacement mapping, but I do see some cool ideas that can be used with it. :)

Kraellin

it can be rather interesting at times, lk :) this is one from a filter i made in filter forge, trying to replicate the displacement map feature of Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop.

(sorry, i'll try not to hijack the thread any more)

You replicated just fine Craig. That is CREEPY!...but nice work nevertheless.

Too cool by the way. :)

Kraellin

thanks guys :D

yes, that got a nice reaction on the filter forge forum also :) because filter forge can use 'surface' mapping in the form of HDR lighting, you can get this displacement type effect quite nicely from a texture mapped onto an image. the disadvantage is that i can only use one image plus the texture created in filter forge. so, if i have two images, one as source and one for the texture, i cant do it in FF.

and lol, lk. in an odd sort of way, that's one of the best compliments i've ever gotten :D

(sorry, janet. didnt mean to hijack your thread)

Kraellin
05-23-2007, 01:56 PM
well, since it looks like i killed this thread, i thought i'd better kick-start it again.

this was done from a couple of filterforge filters, then taken back into Paint Shop Pro where those got blended by blend modes and opacity. added a curves, did some airbrush and finished all this off with some smudging and more blend modes.

Swampy
05-23-2007, 02:32 PM
Craig, what would you do if someone came and took your FF toy away? Now, how 'bout a better crop?

Kraellin
05-23-2007, 10:28 PM
dee dee,

yup, love FF.

but, i dont understand the crop comment.

Swampy
05-24-2007, 06:26 AM
Craig, I'd like to see your version cropped closer to the bird's beak. Although the shot of the parrot is good, the fact that its tail was cut off and there is so much "blank" canvas to the left screams "bad shot, bad shot". I think in this case, cropping out the left side would give a "tight shot" feel such that you don't "mind" the missing tail. Am I making any sense?

Kraellin
05-24-2007, 10:38 PM
dee dee,

i cant give you a crop of the posted pic. i cropped half way through. so, most all the smudging and some of the other was done after the crop. but, here's the point just before i cropped.

Swampy

Thanks Craig. I didn't know if I should take it all the way to an illustration, or enhance it to the photo side, so I left it be. Schizo I am. lol
