I am trying to figure out something with this photo.

I know that I have to finish cleaning up the obvious splotches and cracks, but I am curious when I should start thinking about the sharpening, or smoothing, or what stage after the "cleaning" I should go after. Should it be color correction, curves?

Do you think I should eventually turn this into a B/W or Sepia or what?

It started out as a tiny cardboard framed thing as you will see in the first pic. I scanned it in at 2400 so I can retouch it and have it printed for my mother as it is her father.

Prob is, nothing loads from that link...
At least not in Safari or FireFox/Deerpark.

First stage - levels/curves adjustments & cropping - so you can see what you're working on and you're not wasting time fixing things that will never been seen.
Then clean it up and make it perfect before anything else. Never add colour or sharpening etc before you've finished cleaning.
When the image is as perfect as the day it was taken, then you can think about colour, or sharpening it up a little.

I have a bit of work to go then... =]

Rocket, I was using the zip compression in tif from CS2, I just changed it to no compression, see if that works for ya.

Also, made it so that you can just go in the dir and right click the file to save it to your machine.

Thanks for letting me know that, I forget that not everyone is using the same software.

You have done a wonderful job up to now, could you tell me how you reached the point you are at. I have not been able to come close to the detail you have produced.

I would be more than happy to share whatever info you want to know. Thats what this forum is about, but you gotta tell me what you mean exactly. heh

Everything up to here is just clone tool and patch tool. and lots of it. hehe

I love the patch tool, I could do this much easier if I could smooth (blur) it and am going to test around to see if I can bring the grain back in later.

Lemme know what the questions are though and I would love to explain what all I did.

lol... yes bitch is a good word... I was just wondering what initial adjustment you made... was it levels or curves...that type of thing. Did you apply any other filters such as noise.
