Hi,

Over here not long ago I learned a technique for softening the edges on an extracted object (I think it was a technique described in K. Eismann's book) and made it into an action, but recently I accidently deleted all my actions so it's lost now. Could anyone please describe the technique again. It involved masking the object and then using a curves adjustment layer to soften the edges. Thanks in advance and regards from Macedonia. Ljupco

P.S. I tried the search function but couldn't find it.

I don't know which of her techniques you're looking for, but you can make a selection based on visible pixels, use Select>Modify>Border, then use gaussian blur.

Attached is a quick action I made with a 10px border and a 5px gb. Just make your extracted layer active and run it. You'll want to fine-tune the settings for your own needs.

have you tried making a layer mask from your extract, apply gaussian blur to the mask, then do levels adjustment on it...I use this a bit, it gets rid of fringe artifacts and can be used to soften edges

Thanks guys. I'll give your techniques a try.

ctrol+clic the layer (the one that contains the added thingy) to select it.

Selection/inverse
Selection/Modify/Expand (1 to 3 px)
Glasian blur (two more px. If you expand it 1px then blur 3)

HOPE THIS HELPS
