Hey all,

this sounds a little odd I know, but look at the image attached and tell me how to achieve this effect.

I know I knew how to do it but I forgot! I probably even posted about this here but have no idea where to find it to give myself a little hint.

Help me :)

Hi Patrick,

I've been searching the Internet to see if I could find something on the topic, but all I found was tutorials about creating comics etc.

You have obviously something specific in mind ...

I'm going to move your Thread to the Photo-Based Art Forum hoping someone there will be able to help you!

Thanks, Flora!

--------------------

Image is small and quality is not so goood, so the following is just a shot in the dark.

Try
a) Simplifying the image using filters/plugins such as Photoshop's Noise > Dust and Scratches, or Blur > Smart Blur > Normal, Noise Ninja, Neat Image, Buzz Simplifier I, II or III or the like.
b) Then apply a strong dose of Unsharp Mask

you might also try searching 'painting with light' and 'high pass'. i can see a bit of both in there.

... that this is one of the best portraits I've sen on this site. It would be a useful exercise to try to reproduce it. Is the original available?

Looks like tonal mapping (major effect), with some smudging or bluring, Paint With Light.

Could also get this effect with some creative blends using Flaming Pear's Mr. Contrast and some smudging. :)
