Do photoshop filters get loaded into ram? I am working on a 187 meg photo, the total size with layers is 381 megs, however when I look at my Photoshop.exe in ram resources and it shows as 1.3 gigs used. I have a bunch of plugins, and my history is only set to 100. I do not save things to clipboard so that cannot be it either.

Any ideas?

Native Photoshop filters don't get loaded into RAM, but with 3rd-party filters it's anyone's guess. Try temporarily renaming some of the 3rd-party 8bf files before loading Photoshop to keep them from loading and see if it makes a difference.

I install 3rd-party filters into a separate directory and use prefs to point to it, that way I can disable them via prefs anytime I need to.

Normally they don't. Moreover, as long as Photoshop finds out that filter did not change (during Photoshop startup), it doesn't bother to check the plugin file much until you choose the corresponding plugin from the menu.
