Dear Pros,

I have a friend who asked me whether this picture of his son can be repaired. Looking at the stain :question: (sorry I don't know the exact term in english), I doubt my level of PS skill will be able to repair it :dizzy: So here I am, cry out for help again :)

As always, detail explanation of reparation technique will be much appreciated

Thought I would try it as well. Lots of adjustment layers but nothing fancy. I think it would be best to crop most of the stain out.

Nice one. The picture is getting clearer and the background is more visible. Thanks Butch. Could you mention what adjustment layer you did to get this one. You don't have to explain the detail. Buat at least give me a hint so I could try by myself later.

Really just the basics... Curves...color balance.. and Hue/saturation. I tried to even the harsh color and transitions sometimes by painting on the mask to limit its effects.

Then some cloning and painting on the woodwork and bulletin board. I did use a smudge layer to pull some hair back out after cloning over it. I just painted the wall with a sampled color then applied noise on a gray filled layer set to overlay blend mode. Not sure of the noise amount but around 1.5 to 3 pixels

Here is what I did with your picture:


Cropped and straightened the image.


Used a Shadow/Highlight Adjustment Layer to brighten up the shadows.


Used the Healing Brush (Replace, Normal and Darken Modes) to fix the faded spots: wardrobe, picture frame and the back of the baby's head.


Used Levels to correct the light colour cast and to increase tone/consistency in the lighter area of the baby's head and of the picture just behind it.


Used Surface blur on the baby's legs to remove the blotches.


Used USM to lightly sharpen the baby only.
