Hope you'll like it Peter S 08-25-2006, 06:40 PM Thought I would give this one a try also miguel 08-25-2006, 07:39 PM Here is my "glamour" retouch... prettypixal 08-25-2006, 08:31 PM I thought I would give it a go too I love glam retouches:) plugsnpixels 08-25-2006, 11:36 PM Well, we already have our share of soft-focus enhancements, and since you said "retouch", I pulled out the plug-ins and had at it!
Here's what I used:
Vertus Fluid Mask (http://www.plugsnpixels.com/fluidmask.html), Digital Anarchy Backdrop Designer (http://www.plugsnpixels.com/backdropdesigner.html), Alien Skin Impact (http://www.plugsnpixels.com/eyecandyimpact.html) and Nature (http://www.plugsnpixels.com/eyecandynature.html), Mr. Retro Machine Wash (http://www.plugsnpixels.com/machinewash.html), Twisting Pixels PixelCreation (http://www.plugsnpixels.com/pixelcreation.html), AV Bros. Page Curl Pro (http://www.plugsnpixels.com/pagecurl.html) and ITC Lucis Art (http://www.plugsnpixels.com/lucisart.html).
It's great fun to head off on a creative journey without knowing exactly where you're going... Cassidy 08-26-2006, 01:18 AM My version oltenius 08-26-2006, 02:56 AM My attempt.

And kudos to those brave enough to address The Mole without cropping ;-). leuallen 08-26-2006, 12:37 PM my version
Larry NancyJ 08-26-2006, 01:44 PM Probably a little over-the-top stylised for some, but the plain beauty retouch was a little flat. had to resize to post, second image is close-up of face. oltenius 08-26-2006, 04:13 PM oltenius, I like your effects--what was your process?
And kudos to those brave enough to address The Mole without cropping ;-).
Thank you!
I used a classic method!
Spot healing brush, gaussian blur, highpass, invert, again gaussian blur and plastic wrap.

dc ray12 08-27-2006, 02:13 AM Thanks for the photo to play with.
Used Fluid Mask to cut out the girl and get good hair, Liquify to adjust some features, Surface blur to apply base makeup, Neutral 50% layer for shading and toning, Skin texture mask to place skin texture back in again, Layer masks for blending.

I'm new here and very new to retouching, but here's my version, what do you think?? pavel123 09-02-2006, 07:58 PM My rendering. LQQKER 09-03-2006, 08:16 AM A lot of different takes on this. pavel123 09-03-2006, 10:27 AM A lot of different takes on this.
It is different... The photo is looking so much more natural as opposed to a generic "cosmetics add" type of look one gets with standard blur/soften manipulations.
Could you drop a hint as to what you did... Pattern applied by a healing brush?
Pavel pavel123 09-04-2006, 05:37 AM Another version. Pavel DouDimmez 09-04-2006, 07:59 AM Here's mine.. LQQKER 09-04-2006, 08:45 AM I would guess what I've done is more photo-art than what most would consider a retouch, however, no doubt its "always" a matter of individual taste and what ever floats your boat. No patterns applied.
*Cropped, straightened and resized the image.
*Black layer under the working layer.
*Soft eraser to blend image edges.
*Hue & sat adj on various parts of face.
*Various amounts of adaptive equalization.
*Painted in shadows with low opacity.
*Healing brush to remove items that make-up would normally cover.
*Contrast adjustments where needed.
*Created a simplified layer under working.
*Some gaussian blur.
*Another hue & sat adj.
*Added noise.
Of course layers and masks were involved and applied to individual taste. pavel123 09-04-2006, 09:33 AM I would guess what I've done is more photo-art than what most would consider a retouch, however, no doubt its "always" a matter of individual taste and what ever floats your boat. LQQKER,
Thank you so much for the "walk through". I do agree, your rendering is a bit out of scope for "glamour retouch" and better fits with photo-art, it's a great work, nevertheless.
Pavel cmykphoto 09-04-2006, 12:35 PM this is what i tried... pindaro 09-04-2006, 04:56 PM Had fun with this one.
I looked at this as I would do If this was going to be publish on a magazine or an Ad.
I think her expression was not very good, so I changed it a bit to give her some attitude.
Then coloring and crop was a key factor.
I'd love to see some feedback.
cheers LQQKER 09-04-2006, 09:36 PM I tried an experiment. I used the original picture that I posted, which I intentionally had texture, just to see how Byro's technique would work with the texture I added. desim25371 09-05-2006, 02:48 AM Simple photoshop techniques with masks. I'm a newbie to manipulating digital photos. This is the first post of work I've attempted in-order to learn to use the programs I have, this was done in Paint Shop Pro X. JohnnyC Godmother 09-07-2006, 12:42 PM Tryed to keep it real.
Please tell me what you think Brian2 09-07-2006, 02:28 PM Thought I'd give it a go. Nothing fancy, just some simple healing brush, gaussian blurring on the skin with 50% visibility, dodging/burning and some selective color adjustments. solitear 09-08-2006, 01:30 AM Beautiful girl and fun challenge!
Beth DouDimmez 09-08-2006, 04:45 AM I love your version of the picture, DouDimmez. Really, wow. Looks completely real. I love how you added the teeth -- great touch!
Thanks. I took the mouth and the teeth from another fashion shot. POETIC IMAGE 09-08-2006, 09:22 AM Fun ;o)) I decided to jazz it up some by adding a digital background and giving her a little makeup. As well as Eyelashes. hybridwire 09-08-2006, 01:42 PM Here is what I did, what do you all think? lorelei2876 09-08-2006, 10:03 PM I decided on a more natural look - really just evened out her skin tone to match the rest of her body (the original photo made her face a lot pinker than her body), removed skin flaws, fixed eyebrows and reddened her lips. Kraellin 09-09-2006, 08:07 AM beth, i like yours. i can still see the texture of the skin, you've dressed up the eyes and mouth and changed that head piece to a better color. nicely done.
craig solitear 09-09-2006, 10:30 AM Hey, thanks Craig! Still trying to figure out the whole skin thing.... wish I had CS2 because of surface blur......
Thank you for commenting!
Beth superkoax 09-10-2006, 04:21 PM Well, I've been away and wanted to wait as long as I could...Just to see how many of you guys took this challenge head on....And WOW! The respons was fantastic!

Gerry superkoax 09-12-2006, 03:57 PM hello!
I will give everyone who have made a contribution some words of hwo I liek dthe pictures and/or what they need to fix (IMO)!!!
GERRY superkoax 09-12-2006, 04:11 PM THIS IS WHAT I THINK OF THE DIFFERENT APPROACHES TO THE GLAMOUR CHALLENGE! THE JUDGING IS IN THE ORDER OF THE PICTURE!!!!
ZIAPHRA: Nice work, too much glow for my taste, but love the eyes! The picture would hav ebenefit frome the eyse if the whole picture was a bit darker...
I.ILIEVSKI: The brown colour is abit strong here, but nice work on th eyes and the new colour on the headthingy! Cudoz for keeping the birthmarks :)
PETER S: Nice browntan, but abit too much of glow for me! The pictures lacks abit sharpness bcus of it! Nice work :)
MIGUEL: Nice work on the skin, but her left eye is abit to manipulated...I see what you were trying to do...her right was nice, but left eye isn't so good...Nice work only flaw is the eye! Cudoz for the eyemakeup!
PRETTYPIXAL: Wow, this more of a manipulated retouch picture than glamour! You have tried to get a sort of goth look here...It works, but abit much of colouring around the eyes and the iris!
PLUGSNPIXELS: Here is to much of everything! The glamour retopuch isn't following it's right path! More of a experimental manipulation here! Nice try
CASSIDY: Nice work on the skin...The colouring was very good! light and easy to my eyes!
OLTENIUS: A more experimental retouch here...the skin isn't retouche after my standards...But the effect gives a nice felle to the picture, the makeup adds to the weirdness here...Good on ya! Thnaks for sharing :)
CASSIDY: Nice crop here, more details to the head! Nice job on the skin, but people here haven't tried to fix the hairs in her face! miss that!
SYD: Nice eye makeup, the sklin is almost there, abit to much of effect on the retouch on the skin! Some places you see the skin some places not! But a good job by you, SYD!
BADMIKE: Nice skin, abit to much effect...The glow effect isn't for my taste, but it works well...The gloww effect adds areas on her skin looking pale...That's not good! Nice work on the skin!
DWTHOMP: Nice an d clean on effect, but I feel her face it bit weird...there are areas on her skin that looks darker then other areas...Like she is dirty...on her cheeks, round her mouth...Thanks for sharing...
LEUALLEN: The silver feel over the whole picture is great! I feel it's abit too much, the picture lacks abit of sharpness, maybe that's all it takes to get a better version?! The eyes are a nice effect, but would beneift abit more if the picture was abit darker! Very nice job !
NANCYJ: Nice job on the skin, but i feel the dodging here is abit to much! The picture came out like on a plastic model! But I love the skin!
NANCYJ: This was nice also, but teh skin is showing to much effect on the retouching! Thanks for SHARING, NANCYJ!
DKCOATS: Nice blush effect her on the cheeks! The skin retouch is ok! It looks like everyone here today have used the BYRO De-grunge trick! Nice color on the eyes!
RAY12: Nice background! The eyes came out looking abit weird! You have tried to reduce the gap between the eyes and teh edge, but it shows to much! The skin on her shoulders looks very nice, but in her face it's abit flat! Maybe a combination between those 2? Thanks for sharing!
BELLA: Nice work on the skin! teh colour overall is abit greenish! The dodging on her right cheek is ging her face a somewhat dirty feel! Thanks for sharing!
PHOTOVAGRANT: Nice overall light here! abit yellowish! The crop is abit of here...gives her body a wrong feel! her shoulders seems bigger on here right than her left! Thanks for sharing!
WILDDUCK: The lighitng effect here isn't working at all! I would try to make a new background here! But a nice try nontheless! the skin looks ok! The lighing effects is destroying your work here! Thanks for sharing!
PAVEL123: Nice skin job, but too much glow! her eyes looks dark and mysterious! abit scary! Would love to this picture without the glow effect! Thanks for sharing!
LQQKER: A very interesting approach here...scary eyes! But her skin looks very "unstable"...some spots here tha are darker then other areas!§ The crop and bacground adds tention! would love to see a drake version on the face ass well and better retoc8uhing on the face! Thnaks!
PAVEL123: thes to approaches was very white! It looks like you hav tried to make my grilfriend look like a clown that does the mim tricks? Abit more work on the skin and another round the eyes to get more detals...maybe that would help! Thnaks for sharing!
DOUDIMMEZ: Nice work on the eys, but abit more subtle effect would help more! Cudoz for adding teeth! But these tteth diddn't do the picture any good! The mout was too BIG and the angle of the mouth made it look way of! GOOD JOBB ON THE SKIN! The skin colour is too dark! I smell a new versin from you! Thnaks for sharing!
CMYK PHOTOS: Nice backgrounds on thes pictures! And the feel to pictures is very good! NIce job here! But you have narrowed the face down! The face looks looong nad the mouth is too big! Maybe a new version without the narrowing would do better ;) thanks for sharing!
PINDARO: Nice add of attitude here! Love the look of the face! The picture overall is too light! the eyes would benefit the pictuire of the picture is darker! Gives a new version!!!! Thanks for sharing!
LQQKER: This version was better! cleaner and more benefitials to the picture in whole! Very good job! Thanks for sharing!
DESIM25371: Nice skin! But I feel the crop is abit boring after studying all the other pictures here! Thanks for sharing!
GERU: Nicwe work on the background! the facial retouch is abit to strong on the make up! It's all about be subtle ther to the very las detail! Thanks for sharing!
DOUDIMMEZ: Abit of on the mouth! skin is good! the skin in colour is abit dark! Thanks for sharing!
AARONOLOGY101: The skin is good, but a little flat! th crop is very high up,s o abit details on her lower side should be there!§ Thanks for sharing!
DOUDIMMEZ: You are probably the most creative one tha have given your pictures! Thanks for you versjons! This picture is interesting! a nude picture approach! the boddy is a bit big comapring ti to the head here! the colour on eyes are ncie! but the skin colour is too dark! a more subtle effect on you pivtures would do very good! Thansk for sharing!!!
JOHNNYC: The skin is abit falt I would try to take down the opacity here to were you can some degree of skin texture! the makeup is a good try! Thanks for sharing!
GODMOTHER: The mouth is to much manipulated! And you have manipulated the shoulders upwards? It gives the picture a strange feel to it! Nice try! The skin need abit more attention! Thansk for sharing!
BRIAN2: Nice color on her skin! abit more skin work! Overall a nice picture! Thnaks for sharing!
SOLITEAR: The makeup is too strong! she doesn't look real! abit more subtle effect on the makeup! Would add more realism the makeup! The blurriing in the cleeveage is to strong! Thnaks for sharing!
POETIC IMAGE: very nice job on the skin in her face! You have place the model the oppocite way! that is very nice! The retouch and makeup is nice and realistic in my eyes! Very good job! Thanks for sharing!
HYBRIDWIRE: Nuice image, abit flat! would add more "wetness" to the skin! the effect on the iris here is nice! Overall good picture! Thnaks for sharing!
LORELEI2876: Nice skinwork in the face some job on the nose needs more attention also on the body! more redness to the lips! nice touch there! Nice job! Thanks for sharing!
MARIYANA: To much effect on the eyes! it makes them look BIG! Plus for adding puffyness to the upper lip! Abit more work on the skiin! Thanks for sharing!
TOO EVERYONE: THANKS FOR SHARING! Had a very nice time being the judge, so I hope not everyone have felt left outside here! I think I've managed to get everyone who have given their creative work a piece of my mind! Have a nice daY!
Gerry POETIC IMAGE 09-12-2006, 05:04 PM Thanks for the critique! Was lots of fun... ;o) tell your girlfriend she is a babe... ;o))) makeovermagic 09-12-2006, 05:24 PM gerry, i hope i'm not too late for the "judging" -- here's mine -- i did A LOT of eye manipulation, no offense to your girlfriend -- she is very pretty -- it just seemed like it was more of an angle type of "gap" -- any way, hope you like it.
marsha TheVeed 09-12-2006, 07:51 PM Hey everyone, this is my entry. What do you guys think? I wanted to give it a high-fashion feel, while still making it look natural. Then I did a quick make-up add, to see what I could do with it. I think I gave her a subtle Twiggy feel. At least, I hope I did...
Opinions..? Brian2 09-13-2006, 03:50 AM Looks great TheVeed! Great work on her skin, care to give some insides on how you achieved that? And welcome to RetouchPRO!

Thanks I've reduced the size and it worked. Hope you will like it. arueff 09-15-2006, 12:25 PM I have manipulated the mouth a little bit. .I hope the model doesn't mind..
Greetings from Istanbul..
Hi,
Great the idea the mouth. What have you done ? You've used someone else's mouth ? Well this image has been flogged to death, resurrected and flogged again but going back over the submissions I particularly like the colors in Solitear's one so I thought I would give it a shot with a similiar color scheme.
Syd lkroll 09-17-2006, 02:06 AM ...I don't do glamour. I can say that I do like the natural look. This one definitely did benefit from a technique that I outlined here (http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1006&message=19859574). I also did some healing brush work (kept this to a minimum) in PS and some skin color equalization. Here (http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/9089/jancikelq5ru0.jpg)'s a larger and higher quality version. Attached is a downsized version (did additionally sharpen it since downsizing blurred it a little too much). :) duwayne 09-17-2006, 04:12 AM I just could not resist any longer. Like Ikroll, I don't do glamour but was practicing the degrunge tutorial by byRO. Works great. Thanks byRO for spending the time to document the process. superkoax 09-17-2006, 06:19 AM the de grunge tutorial is very nice with getting some smooth skin, but sometimes using the degrunge tool I tend to get areas in the face that are light and dark...that bugs me...anyone care to shar how I'm messing up with the tutorial??? or do others here get the same thing???
Gerry arueff 09-17-2006, 11:56 AM One more version ! TheVeed 09-17-2006, 12:28 PM How'd u do the background? It reminds me of a high school photo, and I wanted to re-create one for a friend. I just left my glamour retouch challenge's background as white. arueff 09-18-2006, 01:04 PM Third version of the picture. yelhsaneerg 09-18-2006, 02:26 PM here is my version, i smoothed out her skin tone, changed her eye color that's always something small that can make a big difference, arched her eyebrows, gave a her a nose ring (she seemed to have this certain "attitude" about her so i thought that'd go good with her), gave her skin a little more color, and intensified the color of the scarf on her head...that's about all, but i think it turned out pretty good..hope you like it
ashley TheVeed 09-18-2006, 04:55 PM Good call on the nose ring. It just works. I liked her with brown eyes, more, though, it seemed to fit better. Squggle 09-19-2006, 08:48 AM My Go, hope you like, I used the basics of the DIOR tutorial although I prefer the more natural look.
I like red colours with dark hair so I changed the scarf and the lips. plugsnpixels 09-19-2006, 08:10 PM I've been wondering through all of this how his girlfriend has been taking the makeovers!
I created another one of my "fun" makeovers (I gave her Gila monster skin and a leopard skin top), but I'll only post it by request ;-). TheVeed 09-20-2006, 11:27 AM Here is another attempt. Superkoax was kind enough to e-mail me some different pictures of his beautiful girlfriend, and after looking at them, I thought "why not just go for it, just go overboard." I was using one of those hair ads as an example, the ones where the girls are so very retouched, and while you can still see pores, you know that she doesn't look like that in person. So I spent a few hours on this, using Dodge & Burn, Dust & Scratches, a bit of healing to take out her top, and a whole lotta elbow grease.
You can take a look at his first post to see what she was looking like that day (her top, her headpiece and hair, her make-up, etc.) and get an idea of what I started with (they were very similar.)
She has great eyelashes!
What does everyone think? It's my first attempt at this type of retouching. POETIC IMAGE 09-20-2006, 11:29 AM well done. ;o) TheVeed 09-20-2006, 02:57 PM Thanks! Here's a posting of a close-up. There is no gaussian blur applied, just blood and tears. yelhsaneerg 09-20-2006, 03:07 PM you did an awesome job veed, it was good to see sometone went a totally different direction with this one :D keep up the GREAT work!
ashley Brian2 09-21-2006, 07:06 AM Great job TheVeed! What did you use the dust and scratches filter for? And what do you mean by 'just blood and tears? Thanks! I love it Veed. I am trying your method right now on the original pic. I have been busy on it for almost three hours now and I am not nearly finished. Unlike you I am not including breaks in that time. That is solid work time (or play time, however, you look at it). Also it doesn't look nearly as good as yours. Interestingly I was convinced you had added some noise to the picture but now I see I am getting the same effect from B&D, particularly on the shadow side of the face. I am not sure if this is because there was just shadow noise there before and now it is being exposed because I am dodging it or if there is some other phenomenon at work. It is taking for ages and I still have the whole left side of her face to do. I hardly want to post it now after I see what you have done on the two new pictures. But I shall keep my word and post it. So far I have only used a Soft Light layer to dodge and burn. No clone, no healing brush...nothing else. Excellent work again Veed.
Syd dave-ek 09-21-2006, 09:17 AM what do you think i tried to keep it as natural as possible Okay, well, I finally did it. A marathon D&B session...well, certainly longer than anything I have ever done before. A full five hours. My fingers feel like arthritic claws after all that clicking. Although, not perfect I am quite pleased with the results. It is the smallest Photoshop file I have have ever made. The background original, a D&B layer, a sharpening layer and a contrast layer. Not once did I resort to the clone tool or the the healing brush. All the retouching was done on a Soft Light layer with a 5-10% opacity brush. Nothing more. No blurs, no smudging. Nothing. Honest.
Syd I tried to make it looks more natural as possible TheVeed 09-21-2006, 12:08 PM Syd, it looks great! Good job! Looks just like a glamour retouch job. It's annoying retouching, cuz it's so tedious, but u did a greaaat job.

VERY GOOD!

Now that we are done, I will post my Gila Girl for fun. NJ SHADOW 09-21-2006, 09:50 PM This is my second post, I'm learning allot from all you professionals.
Here is what I did, what do you all think? Do you think I have a future in retouching? I stole Halle Berry's hat (http://www.theplace.ru/archive/halle_berry/img/halle_berry_mhf51.jpg) and here's what I did with it :)

Syd keokeo 09-24-2006, 03:02 AM Hi first post.
This is my go. I've been making plenty of tests with this picture for a while now. Took me quite a while to finish. Clone tool for the skin mostly. Comments would be appreciated. JamesEssex 09-25-2006, 06:33 AM KeoKeo
That has to be my fav version so far, really stunning and very naturally done!
I have just made a minor tweak to your retouched version ----
I added a desaturated layer and then gave it a hard light mix and gave it about 70% opacity, I think I like this lighting affect, I think it adds a little more depth.
James skyjely 09-25-2006, 09:42 AM Hi everyone,
Here is my version of this Glamour shot.
Cheers!
Skyjely keokeo 09-25-2006, 09:55 AM JamesEssex I'm really glad that you like it, thanks. You version is good, I agree it seems to have more depth. I was a bit hesitant to add effects that cover the overall image, because I thougth I would lose control of the details, but this worked well. eyegomay 09-25-2006, 03:26 PM Fun ;o)) I decided to jazz it up some by adding a digital background and giving her a little makeup. As well as Eyelashes.
I really like how soft you made the skin and what you did with the eyes. Photo678 09-26-2006, 03:46 PM meh!
i tried LanceHaverkamp 09-29-2006, 10:15 AM Hi,
Pretty Girl, Nice exposure for skin. Lens is so sharp you're running into trouble with pores. Buy a piece of both black and white netting from the fabric store (about 1/8 inch grid) to place in front of the lens, usually you'll want to use the black, but the white is nice for very high-key portraits. But for commercial shoots you just have to pay the retoucher.

Thanks for looking,
Allgood Nescreation 10-05-2006, 08:26 AM No blurring or soft focus here.
Skin tone evened out while keeping the texture. Eyebrows raised just slightly and trimmed just a little. Eyes brightened, added to the highlight in the eyes.
Mouth expanded slightly further. Eyelashes darkened, makup more pronounced. PWL over all.

I wanted to share my version of the much-retouched girlfriend. I used this picture as my first attempt at using the techniques in Katrin Eismann's book on my own- a lot of cloning, a lot of curves layers, but mostly soft light layers with 8-20% black and white paintbrushing. I love some of the previous entries that took it to a more artistic level, and I think I'll try pushing it a little farther in that direction myself. ruud92 11-20-2006, 09:27 AM here is my version

Hi! I'm new here..
This is my creation. Hope you'll like it :kisses: atort13 12-08-2006, 07:55 AM I am just not sure why many seem to be making her skin tone milky white as opposed to normal skin tone values. To me it looks like the life has been sucked out of them, but just my opinion. SeculaSeculorum 12-09-2006, 01:05 AM ..and others will give her an orange colour. I've seen blue versions and also some like to paint her black. That's because some poeple just like it different and don't have to nessasarally like it the way it supposed to be, like you say so.
If everyone thought about it the way you do, every retouch challenge would look almost the same. it's a matter of opinion :kisses: atort13 12-09-2006, 07:49 AM ...that was why I said....just my opinion. Cupcake 12-09-2006, 02:48 PM My try on this pretty lady.

Hope you like it... Only 15 minutes of work to do this...
Changed eye color to green just because I love green eyes. Hope you don't mind. The image quality is not the best in this version because of the size limitations (100kb).
Sometimes while glamour retouching people over-edit the picture and by the end the person in both versions of the same picture doesn't seem the same. When working a pictures people shall be reasonable... Do the needed changes... But remember, don't take it to the limit... Usually subtle changes work much better than exagerated ones. This is my personal oppinion. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! equilibre13 12-25-2006, 04:22 PM :) this is mine newclear 01-06-2007, 08:29 PM Here is another attempt.
OHHH!! i have been looking through and this one is the best!! she looks very beautiful here, but did you get other shots with the shoulders/chest in em? that helps too ;) cmcnamara878 01-07-2007, 12:56 AM Hey. this is my go at retouching. ive been trying it for a while but this is my first forum post. hope you all like it, feedback appreciated
so what i did was:
improved skin tone (i didnt completely remove all of her pores cause i feel that it always make people look awful. like two eyes and a mouth floating in a sea of orange mush)
made her lips more red
added more eye liner
dodged her irises
added blue eye shadow (might be a little too whorish...but whorishness is the new black)
changed the colour of the bandana to blue
increased the contrast of the bandana
changed the background colour to blue
increased shadow levels
i think thats about it
any comments would be really appreciated as im still new at this.
thnx craig The skills on this forum are insane!
Almost all of the results here are more than I could hope to achieve; however, I prefer the submissions from LQQKER and TheVeed.

i love the blue blackground. definately makes the whole image pop. id probably lessen the orange/red tint of her skin- seems a little too unnatural.
and sometimes adding a slight blur to the skin makes skin seem softer rather than fake. Mike,
I'm always curious when people use comments like yours with regard to what retouching "should" be. I am by far no expert (I'm a cosummate "left brainer" in the Navy who dabbles in photography/retouching as a hobby to release my inner "right brain"), but shouldn't retouching (i.e. photo editing) be based upon either the desires of the client or the retoucher's personal taste/interpretation of the original photo? Retouches range from the extremely subtle (i.e. slight curves, levels adjust) to the explicit (putting a human head onto the body of a cat). While one may look "natural", the other obviously doesn't, but it could be an incredible retouch. For me, there are very few "shoulds" in retouching, but a huge number of recommendations that can improve a retouchers skill and open their eyes to various interpretations of a photo. All one has to do is sift through forums like this to see the amazing talent of many folks...and the lesser attempts of other like me. But I think everyone can learn from the good and the bad and shouldn't (oops I used the word) be locked into "should's"
Regards
Mike
BTW, I did like your retouch. Wish you had posted a higher res version so I could better see all that you did. ShellBen 02-15-2007, 12:08 AM Hi there! I wanted to change as little as possible, and just enhance. Didn't want to change the person, so I didn't really remove birthmarks or freckles. I gave her a little more eye makeup and made her lips a bit fuller. I think she looks best with a natural look.
Comments are appreciated! Hi peeps, this is my first image post, on Retouch Pro.
comments and critique requested :surprise: imagae 02-15-2007, 10:19 AM Much fun with this. I do feel the need to tell you that this is NOT a bad pic of a nice model! Anyway, this is my version of your girl....

gerry LorriLynn 02-15-2007, 04:29 PM I found this earlier today and thought Id give it a shot.
I flipped the image tho as it just seemed to look better and made her look as if she was smiling a little more.

Then set her off to one side.

Gerry Regus 02-24-2007, 08:34 PM This was a fun project, I think I spent the last two hours or so playing around with it. The biggest hurdle I had was some issues with selecting the hair so it wouldn't end up choppy and pixelated. I left some of her pores and what not in her face, just to make it a bit more real.

I wanted to add some makeup on the eyes, like TheVeed did here (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/attachments/photo-retouching/36951d1158113725-glamour-retouch-challenge-here-challenge2.jpg), but couldn't find any good tutorials about it. What techniques do you usually use for that? TheVeed 04-25-2007, 08:26 AM I just do quick mask of the areas I want to change, and then apply curves/hue/saturation/levels, etc.
Or, sometimes I paint directly on. Say, eye shadow, I will paint with a color (say, blue or magenta) set to Multiply or another setting, at a very low opacity.
Try it out and see what works for you. sashacooper 05-03-2007, 10:25 AM This is my try:

Just wanted to get in on this awesome thread. Here's my shot at it. I wanted to keep it as natural as possible and not too glamour like. My goal was to really learn the D&B technique as advised by theVEED. (thanks veed!)
Please critique!! I'm sure it could use lots of improvement.
I also used liquify for the jaw just for experimentation. I hope she doesn't mind.
Thanks Guys!! paulafrog 06-01-2007, 02:12 PM I think it looks really good. Skin still looks real. Maybe a tip? set the burn tool to about 8% on shadow and go over the pupils and outer iris. Then maybe a little on the eyelahes and brows jacknick 06-01-2007, 03:00 PM thanks for the tip paula. Did the image look flat and lacking of color to you? I thought i added enough weight and color but It seems to have a different appearance in each browser. I attached srgb profile.
any ideas anyone on how to handle that? idgie 06-03-2007, 12:23 AM I know this is an old post but thought would give it a try also :) fryday 06-06-2007, 09:24 PM this is my first retouch ever. ive been reading alot of different ways to retouch and here's what i came up with.

lol that made me laugh. Especially because you keep coming back to the thread, but cry about having to see it. Vikki 06-10-2007, 06:20 AM Agree. A new photo is needed. How about one that actually has the potential to be "glamorous"? Dr-Alex 06-14-2007, 04:47 AM My version

This is my 1st post, so let me know what you think, be honest, be brutal, you only learn by your mistakes. The 1st is a little soft, but I still like it.

It's not 'pictures' that limit our creation, it is 'us'.
Hi Snook 305, it is NOT your blood on the wall.... I repeat, it is N.....:) :) Dr-Alex 06-18-2007, 12:42 AM My criteria of a retouch.
Minimally to deform the image.
To make a beautiful leather
To eliminate minor defects
The rest - to a wish of the client.
Leather of the person - its individuality. I always try to leave times and fine hair. Without them a leather unnatural. As plastic. Clicker10 06-18-2007, 01:40 PM this thread is awesome! superkoax 06-29-2007, 02:30 PM hey, snook! hehe...sick of the picture, ey? the stupid scarf? Why keep coming back to this post? I have over 200 different retouched pictures of this! I must say that this is getting more and more interesting, since every single picture that people upload is always different! I have plans to take every single picture and put them into one picture! This will be uploaded here, but people keep coming with more retouched everytime, so therefor I wait until this thread is dying...hehe...
Good luck to you, sir! I hope you find peace in the future! it wasn't my intention to start a so popular thread! I like your statement it's your frustrated opinion. charming and abit humouristic as well!

Had fun trying to keep it under 1 hour ... pushes me to try harder and get a little faster ... thanks for the challenge. This is my first post ... have no idea what to expect =) superkoax 07-02-2007, 01:54 AM georgenc: welcome to retouchpro! Gerry GeorgeNC 07-02-2007, 07:26 AM Gerry ... thanks for the warm welcome. Guess I should have wrote that I'm still looking to get to the "One Hour Mark" on retouching ... not quite there yet but I'm trying to develop a system like approach to help me keep on track. Don't get me wrong ... there's no short-cutting quality ... just don't want to get lost on one photo for hours upon hours ... I'm sure you family folks know what I'm talking about. If it were up to me I could spend most of my time in front of my PC ... again, thanks ... George
Photoshop ... Hope you will post a new challenge soon ... this is a great platform for anyone wanting to learn/share and grow =) grannysdc 07-02-2007, 10:10 PM just for Snook... No Scarf..

Granny saeros 07-08-2007, 11:51 AM My first entry on this site. Quite happy about the result.
Would love some comments:) sskelsey 07-09-2007, 01:16 AM My glamour retouch :) GlamourArt 07-10-2007, 01:28 AM Hi Gerry, pretty good job, you kept original skin texture and some sharpness (if it is sharp for original size also).
Only one thing, flesh tone is bit dark and you are loosing details in dark areas (hear, dress), so if you make it brighter and keep sharpness and tonality would be great job
Sincerely, GlamourArt Yoolan 07-11-2007, 07:21 AM Hey Folks,
here is my try.
- no blurring
- only d&b layerset
