I took this shot last night. As you can see the sun was setting, and my red channel is totally blown. I've tried adjusting curves..each channel with little success. To get the optimum from what I have what corrections do you suggest? Thanks...

I used curves, color balance, hue/saturation and brightness/contrast.

Same as the above folks did ...Levels and curves. But I did make a loose selection of the red in the upper center and used Hue/saturation to reduce the red of the sunset. However maybe swampy is right about keeping the colors.

Here is an approach I find flexible on uneven casts. The first thing I did was create a new alpha channel to which I applied the Reflective Gradient vertically (Black to White to Black) - see attachment 1. Now just activate the red channel (Ctrl 1) but make all the eyeballs visible so you can see how the image changes. Then do Image>Apply Image and when the dialog box comes up, select the red channel, choose the Difference Blend Mode, and check the Mask box at the bottom and select the Alpha 1 channel (it should be the default selection). Don't click OK yet. Adjusting the opacity gradually you will see the band in the center of the red channel going from very dark to very light and the composite image will change giving you a lot of control to neutralize the red cast a lot or a little. Click OK when you like the result. When you are done the image may be a bit too dark so a simple curve adjustment will lighten it and at the same time you can restore some of the sunset highlights in the same curve.

Well I just used a levels adjustment layer. First the white point then the black point and finally I clicked around the grey point on some white fabric until I got the blend I wanted. I sort of liked the yellow sunlight in the center of the photo too.

I had a go

I used a technique similar to Murray.

Great tips Murray. But I don’t like working on the channels. It seems so final and un-repairable.

After adjusting levels
The Red channel is damaged so I copied it out to a layer and added a radial gradient to a levels adjustment layer.
Once the red layer was repaired I copied it back to the red channel
Then, Layers to paint
Sharpened selective

Where is the ball?

As many have I used a curves adjustment followed by a levels adjustment and then using a selective color dropped back a little of the cyan which dominated the lower portion of the picture.
