My daughter wants to get into modeling(yes a seven year old). Anyway, I am trying my hand at head shots and using her as my test subject. So here is a shot that I would like a critique on.

i like your composition and she definitely has a 'look'. however, the lighting is somewhat dull. you want her to stand out and lighting is the key. a tighter crop might be good also, but not as important as the lighting in this case.

i'm attaching just one such possibility and even mine i'm not completely happy with, but shld give an idea what i mean.

I currently work for Reproductions in ny which handle print material for actors and models and the most obvious trend I notice right off the bat is that if your looking for modeling work, we need to see full body and her hair. This is not necesserily the case for acting, but for modeling agents and directors will definitly want to see more than just her face.

light is too hot...pull it back a stop or two.... need to see more details in her skin/face. composition is nice, but its a bit too tight, pull out a bit and get more of her shoulders in the shot.

might also want to try a backlight or hair light up above, just to give the shot a little but more depth, as it looks now its pretty flat.
