View Full Version : Dragan Retouch.... POETIC IMAGE 09-14-2006, 11:57 AM Hey guys and gals.
I thought it would be fun to see how everyones skills are at the "dragan" technique. For those who don't know what this is examples can be found at http://andrzejdragan.com/ . I love this technique , I don't think I would use it in anything I do but its sure dramatic and fun to admire. Good luck ;o))

Image to retouch--> http://www.edwardfrench.com/cranshaw%20WEB%20old%20man.JPG Not sure I'd call that a "Dragan".
Although the technique calls for heightening the texture of the skin the idea is to get a portrait with a lot of "character".
In this image it seems that the intent was only to amplify all the defects - which ends up more "creepy" than "character".
The technique has already been discussed at length in these forums - please do a search for "Dragan".

I don't find the look of age scary or like to make it so. Myself, I think he has the looks of a man that has had a timely experience with life, so I made an attempt to portray him as so. Steve Conway 09-14-2006, 02:46 PM I agree with your sentiments and with your nice rendition.
I have a 91 year old father-in-law.

I think its nice but might be a little on the light side. For me there is too much contrast between him and the background. Nice though. pindaro 09-15-2006, 11:32 AM there u go. HandMadeGod 09-15-2006, 03:06 PM Thanks but i think the background isn't really important for a try like this. :)

A lot of work went into this one  POETIC IMAGE 09-17-2006, 11:37 AM You can tell. Great work. Love the naturalness to it. Godmother 09-17-2006, 12:35 PM I think every retouch should be seamless HroadhogD1 09-17-2006, 02:22 PM Well, this is what I came up with. triggerfish 01-07-2007, 01:13 PM [img]http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/triggerfish_kajtku/barber3.jpg[img] sunfly 01-10-2007, 04:53 AM The more I looked at the challenge photo, the more it reminded me of Leonardo's Grotesque Heads. So... I had fun learning how to use the liquify tool. :-)
As for all the steps.. whew! I got lost a lonnnnnnnnnnng time ago. I started off with liquify, then colour correction, then overlays for more brights, cloning, erasing, whitening hairs, putting in stubble... umm... ended up with a black background unintentionally.
Sherry Duffy Pratt 01-10-2007, 10:10 AM Not in the Dragan style. I think he's remarkable looking, and not ugly at all. This is a basic correction.
Duffy sunfly 01-10-2007, 10:52 AM If he was an actual living elderly gentleman I would not have disrepectfully deformed his face in such a way. But since he's an actor I figured it was OK.
I thought he was a real man until I really got looking at his skull features, his 'make-up towel' and the environment. Awesome make-up artist.
Sherry "I thought he was a real man until I really got looking at his skull features, his 'make-up towel' and the environment. Awesome make-up artist."
Actually, he was an elderly gentleman actor. His name was Patrick Cranshaw and you might have seen him on TV or in the movies. He passed away in Dec 2005:

'art is working on something 'til you like it...then leaving it that way' sunfly 01-10-2007, 05:09 PM Ack... I think I just stuck one of my hooves in my mouth... it's a Saggi thing. I figured he actually was an elderly man... but made up to look all strange with the viens and such.
Thanks for the info, Pam. I went and checked him out. He looks to be a very kind man. Hope he is somewhere laughing over my version of his character.
Sherry glikster 02-16-2007, 07:18 AM I was searching for dragan effects when I found this pic...
