I am very interested in seeing different Collage and Montage styles and Techniques. Are there others interested in showing their work and sharing their knowledge of making collages and montages. I like using family photos and backgrounds and using graphics of interest to the people in the collages. I do not have a link right now to any information but will look for some. Please post any help and information. Thanks Neb

I don't know if you've heard of www.worth1000.com There you'll find some great tutorials on Chops (montajes) sure... they are not exactly "family" but I think you could find use for the tips.

skydog I have samples but do not have permission from the people to use them to post. I would like to do so, I will try and get permission. Most of these have been gifts to the people in the collages and pictures used are their own or my digital pictures taken at the events like a wedding and motocross race. I have one of my grandson I just did of some of his motocross pictures , but I should ask him and his Dad if I may post it.

The style and layout of what you are doing and seeking is more important than the faces...so why not blur out or color out the face of the individuals so no one knows who they are?

You raise an interesting question. I know one must get permission to use someone's photo for sale and profit, but is this also true for art? or taken in a public forum? For news one does not need permission...where is the line drawn? Another question...if I see an interesting picture in a magazine can I scan it for posting to share or to ask the approach someone took to get that look if I give credit to the source?

Does anyone know how to blur out ..I do not know how ..

what software are you currently using for your photos

I have both photoshop CS2 and PSP9 .. Neb

just take a brush from either program and white out the features of the faces so no one knows who they are and then save the file by another name. You can then post the example you are trying to explain without identifying the people in the photo.

Well most interesting collage site. I would consider these types of collages art forms so to speak. I am sure they are compiled by folks who can draw and have great flair. My collage style is much different and more simple. I like to work with photo images of family and events. I am still learning so I use simple techniques of backgrounds and pictures placed on top , using various masks. I place poems and sayings on mine. My style is similiar to the scrapbooking style shown in the site Miguel offered. I used to go there a lot Miguel. I will post the very first one I made a year ago. I do have her permission, but no others. I have grown in abilities alot since this first one. I want to learn different ways to use the photos besides just premade masks. This is my goal. While Zonk might be more appropriate sometimes, I think I'll stick with LonK (Lon K.)

I think there's a difference between a "collage" and a "montage", the latter being more descriptive of your particular style (per your example). I've never really done either, so perhaps someone else could provide a definition a bit more specific.

Anyway, I did a Google Image search on both terms and though there seems to be a considerable amount of overlap, "collage" seems to be more of a blending of parts of images to arrive a themed whole, while a "montage" includes a number of themed images gouped together or separately pasted onto a background image/pattern but still remaining individually distinct. Does that make sense?

As I mentioned before this is a very nice program for creating templates and scrap books. You can download any version for trial to see if you like it. They also have a community blog to get additional ideas.
