This is a friend of my mom from way back when the were in their 20's. I thought it would be a good one to practice on. Then when I finished the restoration I thought it would be fun to colorize it.
I work on them for about 2 1/5 hours. Mainly I cloned in the missing pieces and then I used the degrund method to clean up the skin. Dodge and Burn out the blotches. To color it I used the tutorial i found in the tutorial section, by Tzabaoth.

The first thing that I noticed is her left cheek/jaw. The tone is a little lighter than the rest of her face. Maybe do a slight sharpening from the nose and down. Other than that, you did well in restoring this pic.

I would have chosen a different hue on the background, maybe in the family of blue or red, to make the subject stand out a bit, but this is just personal choice.

Good Job. I took your colorization and increased the contrast, increased the saturation and warmed up the colors some. I don't know if you think this is better, but of course you did all the real work.

Soleah I see what you mean about the tone of the left cheek area. I think I fixed it.

Phil - I have also increased the saturation of the skin tones.

I was having trouble picking a background color I didn't want it to look to garish. I have changed it to a blue tone, this seems to kind of blend in. What do you think.

I was going to gripe about the colour choice for the lips, then looked at the date of the pic and realised it was in keeping with the makeup choices of the day.

I noticed on your latest adjustment that some of the curtain was green and some was blue.

The face of your lady seems to me to have a slight bluish cast. Of course now we are getting into personal taste, monitor calibration, and color space.

However I like your second rendering much better

Phil - Thanks. The curtains do seem to be oddly shaded, maybe I should look at the channels to see if I can fix it. And on my one monitor there is a definitely blue cast but on the other monitor it looks good.
