I don't normally post retail links, but I thought some of our members might appreciate the opportunity of a no-risk chance to experiment with VoIP.

US shipping is $7, and expires October 26. Plus it's a mail-in rebate (my least favorite kind).

my brother uses voip. how's this work? i have bellsouth for phone and dsl. i know you need high speed internet for voip, which i have. so, what would i do, drop my bell phone but keep the dsl? and then, do i have to sign up for a voip service, like vonage or do i just need this voip hardware thing and i'm good to go?

I wouldn't dump your regular phone. If nothing else, you need it to call and complain to your ISP when your service goes down.
