Hi Sheila and welcome to Retouch Pro. I assume if you have purchased the images they are likely of good quality but may be intended for on screen viewing (wallpaper) or small size printing. The only other thing I can think of is that you have downloaded the thumbnail and not the actual image. Some sites require you to use the thumbnail as a link to the image. What was the description of the images you purchased (size, resolution, rights of use)?

Sheila,
I'm pretty sure that they only intended for you to 'view' the images, not print them. If they did that, they wouldn't sell the larger images that they need to sell. If you are just wanting to print them and show someone, then they'll be very small (more than likely) and not very good quality.
These are known as "low res", which means essentially they are for online viewing only, kind'a like you found out. These are 'proofs' only.
