This photo is from one of those disposable cameras. I cropped it down after scanning it at 300dpi. I am very new at this and am stuck on how to make her features more defined (or distinct, it that's the correct word) and how to add a background (like clouds and sky) without making her look like a "cut and paste" job. Any tutorial (or directions to) or other help would be greatly appreciated.

geezer,

all of what you want to do is probably possible, but the image size you've posted is quite small. any chance to increase the image size here? (file size and image size are not the same thing. if you lower the resolution you can increase the image size and stay within the parameters for posting)

Thanx for the reply. Since the image file size is 100kb and these are 48kb & 52kb respectiely, should I resize and send just the Orig or the cropped one. Maybe zip it? Thanks again.

Hi, geezer :)

The image size is way too small, as Kraellin said. What I suggest you do, is take your cropped original (the one at 300 dpi), and go to the "Save for Web" command under the File menu.

Here is a RetouchPro mini-tutorial (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/image-help/9077-size-quality-attached-images.html) that will explain the steps.

Once you have posted a larger image to work on, I'll give it a go. :D

Hmm. Now we have too much artifacting going on. :(

How big is the original image, btw? (The uncropped newly scanned one, that is).

Duplicated the original
Filter->Other->Highpass (3.1px)
Changed Blending to overlay

Very nice job. The original image is 1.58MB - 720px x 766px - 300ppi. Does this help? Again, thanx for you effort and the little "mini-tutorial"...

Different values for the high pass would be needed, maybe do a highpass at 3.1 on the image posted here to see what it looks like so it can be translated into the same type of detail in the larger pic.
