Excellent work, so hard to pick. Lorraine 11-25-2006, 03:53 PM I wish I could have voted for everyone who entered. This contest was very difficult and each version is so very good. But we can only vote for 5, so these are my picks:
1. cazubi -- I just wish I could come close to drawing like you. Every detail is perfect. The photo became a flawless painting. Great outlining. The color choices are wonderful. The foreground becomes the background (or vice versa) integrating nature with the subject as the art nouveau style does.
2. Raniday – Great work on creating a painting. Excellent color choices and integrating nature with the subject. Good work on the outlines.
3. Makeover Magic – Lovely work on the outlining details, especially her face. The colors are great.
4. Doug Colwell – I love the background and the outlining. You’ve created a very good painting. Also, the colors work very well.
5. HannibalVector -- Your framing is excellent as is the overall painterly look you’ve achieved. The outlines are perfect, but somehow her face still looks a little too much like a photo.
Special mention to Cupcake and soleah. While not as “art nouveau ” as some, I’ve spent a lot time enjoying looking at your entries for the softness and effects. Both of you have done wonderful work.
Congratulations everyone.
Lorraine soleah 11-25-2006, 08:43 PM My vote:
1. cazubi - I love the intricate detail and how you made the subject into a 2d drawing.
2. lorraine - Simple and clean. Well done.
3. lonk - Well executed. Colors a bit bright but then I'm not an expert on art nouveau.
4. photob - I also like your previous entry
5. hannibal-vector - Curls on the hair. Did you trace it or use filters? I like it. Doug Colwell 11-25-2006, 09:15 PM Since I still need assistance spelling it, I'm not real comfortable judging what is or isn't 'art nouveau', so I based my votes soley on the contest guideline 'It should be similar in style to the samples images provided.' The portrait samples I looked at all shared a similar style of line drawing and a mostly flat application of colours (not much 3d shading), and most of them also seemed to feature lots of curvy leaves, flowers or vines.
1.Cazubi - really nice integration with sideground?, great colour, line, and a clean look.
2.Makeovermagic - another good fit with bg or sg, I like the sketchy lines. Great face.
3.PhotoB - line quality looks consistant in subject/bg, great colour, maybe too much photo peeking thru.
4.Lorraine - a great illustration, extremely well done, but not quite 'similar in style'.
5.HannibalVector - lines (especially the hair) capture the style perfectly and match the bg, but the photo look of the face, bird and arm doesn't fit. PhotoB 11-27-2006, 07:37 AM 1- Lorraine
2- cazubi
3- Hanibal Vector
4- swampy
5- dcolwell
Great job everyone! cazubi 11-27-2006, 07:44 PM I really enjoyed working on this contest, and looked forward to seeing the entries as they came in. It was very hard to pick, but here are my choices.
1. Doug Colwell. Very nice linear drawing, good colors.
2. PhotoB: Good design motif in background, and the girl is nicely outlined.
3. Lorraine: Good use of color. You did very nice work on the girl.
4. makeovermagic: Over all a nice look. The background is not quite what I would call Art Nouveau, but it still works.
5. HannibalVector: Nice background and overall look. I would have rated this one higher if the girl looked less photographic.
Excellent work everyone.
Cathy Quite a task to select from all the excellent entries. Everyone deserves accolades.
