Sample Style Images (only use as a reference for style):
Art Nouveau Print Samples (http://digital.nypl.org/mmpco/browseFTresults.cfm?trg=1&titleid=570201)

If this link breaks you can go to the NYPL (http://digital.nypl.org/mmpco/search.cfm) and type "art nouveau" in the search field to see the samples.

The Prize:
Window Seat
The Art of Digital Photography and Creative Thinking (http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/windowseat/#top)
by Julianne Kost, donated by O'Reilly

Book description
Window Seat: The Art of Digital Photography and Creative Thinking is a complete view of a creative project from the artist's perspective. Julieanne Kost, a Photoshop and creative thinking guru, has taken her own experience shooting images out of airplane windows to create a unique seminar in three parts: a manifesto of ways to stay creatively alive; a portfolio of stunning photographs, with commentaries describing her experiences and thought process; and a technical appendix that includes the details of the images were shot, manipulated, and prepared for printing.

THE RULES:

1. Contest will run from 1 November to 22 November 2006. Deadline for entries is 6pm EST 22 November 2006.

2. I will not answer questions concerning the rules. Interpretation of the rules is as important as execution.

3. Tasks:

* Create an art nouveau print from the working file provided. It should be similar in style to the samples images provided.
* If you add other components to complete the image make sure they are non-copyrighted or public domain.
* Final image must be exactly 480 px wide and 640 px high.
4. When you submit your entry put your username in the filename (ie: tpaul.jpg). This is so users can save the images to a local directory and remember who did what--important when it comes time to vote.

5. Post your entries to this thread. Links will not be accepted. Please restrict your comments, questions or discussion to the November 06 Contest Discussion thread. Inappropriately placed posts will be deleted.

6. Only one entry per person. You can change your entry up to the deadline.

7. Voting will run from 24 November to 30 November 2006. Only those with entries may vote.

8. Voting:
* Submit the 5 best entries (by artist name) in order, starting with your favorite.
* You cannot vote for your own image.
* Once you have voted, you cannot change your votes.

Finally, please remember that this is a friendly contest and suppose to be a learning experience. Tips and suggestions to help others are highly encouraged. Also please don’t limit your comments to just the top 5 when you vote. Most members are eager for feedback about their images, so remember to help each other out.

I guess rule #2 has stifled discussion:
"2. I will not answer questions concerning the rules. Interpretation of the rules is as important as execution."

I would like a definition of the term "print" as in: "creating an Art Nouveau print".

In other words: we are talking about more than just a print of a photograph...that is all I wanted to know, before I went up the wrong road. Thanks

I’m so jealous for this entire Art Nouveau artistry. It looks so easy but it’s impossible to fake it.

I plan to have a different background in mind but I'm not sure if I can pull it off at so short a time. Hope this is art-nouveau-ish enough like the rest of the entries here.

This was a fun contest! I sure wanna do more with art nouveau in the future.
I didn't had much time for this one. I think for designing those ornaments,
Illustrator wil work better than Photoshop.

Please enlarge the image to full size, otherwise you'll see weird artefacts.
