Where would you start with an image where the colors are as blown out as this one is?

Hi there

I used a color burn neutral layer to increase color and contrast.
Then used a green channel for a mask and inserted a new sky

I would replace the sky with a suitable one from another photo. I see nothing (no information) in the sky to be saved. The rest can be fixed with curves or levels.

The RGB for the sky all came up 255 so I don't think there is anything there. I did a Render clouds.

Probably the easiest to start with is to set the black point and white point. Go to adjustments and curves and then use the black eye dropper and white eye dropper to set the points. Just by doing this you can make a solid improvement in the overall picture but as others have said, the sky is gone. As indicated before, the only solution is to put another sky in its place.

Question regarding the sky, was this shot in RAW? if so the Raw version could still have some details of the sky, once converted the details get clipped and there is nothing to save. No guarantees however the RAW did have some details but with highlights and shadows much more can be saved from that file.

this was shot as a 35mm slide in 1969.
