Good work palms ...like the elimination of distracting elements and the change to the soft cool blue monotone.

Dawn no secret really. (just hard work  ).

I use Imagenomic to reduce the noise - set at full noise reduction. I do this several times to really soften the image, any blemishes left I remove with the healing brush,
Imagenomic also adds a little sharpening, I remove any halos with the blur brush opacity set quite high and use maximum hardness, this leets me get right up to the edges without overblurring them.
I use Hue/Sat to tweak the colours as the softening alters them slightly, adjust levels to suit. I have also used NancyJ's painting with light cheat a couple of times to emphasize stuff (http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/rp-tutorials/15227-30-second-paint-light-cheat.html?highlight=paint+light)
Then I go over it all again with the blur brush to pick up the small stuff I may have missed.
I did start to write a tutorial on this, but it can be very different for each image, less blurring less Hue/Sat etc. So far there are about 5 or 6 ways to get this effect. It does not work quite so well on complicated patterns in the picture, so I look for plain coloured things, they seem to work better.
It can be done partially with LucisArt if you have it.
Hope this helps, my this is a long post for me, I am usually quite brief.

Palms nice one, similar to mine I see but is that a duotone?
Steve very different, do I detect heavy LuscisArt stuff there?
Margret very good simplification there, cutout filter used I think or maybe poster edges?

peter,

thanks for that explanation. i borrowed on it (and subsequently nancyj's tutorial) and altered things just a bit to get mine. it's pretty much the same thing but without any smudging, just digital camera noise removal, hue/sat layer, and nancyj's high pass solution. makes for a nice, soft, better highlighted image. i like it.

Nice one but:-
You do realise I get commission for every time this method is used now don't you Craig?

Peter at a guess i would say yes it is a duotone, it is the satin steel preset in virtual photographer

Peter

That's some of it with some auto photo fix and saturation adjustment. Then I just kept playing with various things like Buzz to take away some harshness until I got the look I was relatively satisfied with.

And like everyone else, I am amazed at what you came up with. But I see it's a bit of work too.

Keiser, welcome to the forum.
It's hard to give critiques on something that is supposed to be art representation, in other word anything goes.
I like your high key, I would probably darkened shadows, but that could be a calibration thing.

I like the second one best, nice and sharp, though maybe a little over sharp.
The high key one, looked better when I pasted it into Photoshop and darkened it with levels, not bad at all then.

There is no such thing as ugly, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or so I'm led to believe.
Its getting smoother and lighter.
Your obviously going through a purple phase. Don't get to a black one, everything disappears, black on black not very visible.
Purple - it seems to work though.
I'm going through a grey phase myself, especially my hair.

Not necessarily a purple phase....it's just what came about after I dropped a bunch of adjustment layers on the original......I really like what it does for the greens and yellos in the eyes......

When I say ugly curve, I mean that the one I used prior looked out of control.....it's a curve I could probably not use in my day job!!

I just ran into something very odd. I always use Photoshop's "save for web" feature to get photos below 100k for posting. On this one, Photoshop would only take it down to about 350k. My guess is that there is so much detail in the photo that it would have been ruined at lower levels of compressions.

Anyway, I cropped, and cropped and cropped until it would save below 100k. Needless to say, this misses most of the photo. But I think this effect is interesting and fun. The effect is Embroidery from Virtual Painter 5.

This girl was so pretty I didn't want to do much to her. I just did a little photo correction soften the skin using Neat Image applied a glamour filter did a hue/sat/lightness adjustment and added the frame.

Hope ya'll enjoy,

ImpressionistAlexmeta, that's a great combination of line and color. How did you do that?

Hi, Andrew, thank you for your comment.
I don't remember the details: first - more saturation, second unsharp, third - impressionist, and last - in the top layer "line pic" with line burn blending mode.
