I'm pretty new at this and completely self taught. I would LOVE some feedback about my fixes. Thank ya! the rest can be found at Dropshots.com/shayalon (http://www.dropshots.com/shayalon)

Very good so far Shayalon.

You might want to do a little dodge and burn to reduce the shadows on the toddlers face. Start with a 5%-!0% opacity soft brush.

You could use the Shadow/Highlight tool that would give some good results for you

Welcome to RetouchPRO, shayalon. :bigthmb:

Like Swampy said, you've corrected the levels but the image has ended up a tad to dark.

I'm not sure how you fixed the streaks in the grass, but I'm guessing you used the patch tool (<J>) in CS2. If so, just remember that it isn't perfect and often you have to apply it again. I'm saying this because it seems that some sharp artifacts (noise) got left behind.

The quickest way to fix a background area is to just crop it out. If this was an important historical image then you couldn't do that - but here the background doesn't seem (to me) to have anything interesting. It does, however, contain many distractions. Cropping in on the boy avoids the trouble and makes for a better final image.

I also chose to do a slight blur on the grass, thus keeping the attention on the young lad.

(PS. Bet this would look nice in colours -  )

welcome to RP, shayalon.

damn nice for being new to this.

you've missed a few things. nothing all too critical. as Ro said, a bit darker than the original. left some white-outs on the right... burn shld fix those. left a white-out on the bottom left... just clone some grass in there. there's one mark in his hair that bugs me a bit, where a scratch mark used to be. it makes a little transition line there that doesnt look right. and his right arm has pock marks left over from the original. small, but noticable.

yeah, we're nit-pickers here :)
