View Full Version : Sunset's palms1 11-22-2006, 09:34 AM I have been pondering on these for a while and no inspiration has come forth,
so anybody any ideas ? seems a shame to waste them (seemed like a good idea at the time !)
any style goes
Palms Swampy 11-22-2006, 12:59 PM I'm not real sure how I got to this point, but I just had to have a go at this picture. Great shot, Palms!
Sketch, gradient mask to make the pic darker at the bottom than at the top. Duplicated with multiply mode for over all darkening. Merge. Paint some color back into the beach, water and sky. Texturize and set a history point to paint at low opacity with AHB.
Thanks for the play, Palms. pavel123 11-22-2006, 07:32 PM This image seemed to be better left as a photo, so I just try to enhance it a bit.
Pavel chillin 11-22-2006, 09:42 PM I think it is great for Impressionist. palms1 11-23-2006, 02:21 AM That's great Swampy lovely colours and i like the way the sun rays are coming out of the sky, and great texture too, i am not a great lover of texture but you always seem to get it just right
Pavel nice enhancements the red one wins hands down for me
Chillin great choice of impressionist, for some reason hadnt thought of it, now i will have to go and play
Thanks
Palms pavel123 11-23-2006, 04:36 AM Chillin, I take back my words about leaving the image as a photo. Very nice Impressionist rendition.

Palms patriciakay 11-23-2006, 01:39 PM Hi Palms...Thanks for the lovely sunset photos...very nice!
I like all the renditions so far...nice to change the colors..so many great effects...well done all!!!
I have done both in Painter with the oils brush and framed with an action in Photoshop...The pink sunset i added Falming Pears Mr Contrast...
Patricia... :classic: palms1 11-23-2006, 02:08 PM Thank you Patricia
both your renditions are good like the "pink one " best
i will let you into a secret about the pink one, when i was taking the shot i was a bit concerned about how bright it was ( i thought i had read somewhere it could damage your lens ) so i put my sunglasses over the lens
Palms patriciakay 11-23-2006, 02:19 PM Palms..
Ah, so thats what i should do if the suns so bright...thanks for the tip     Seriously i always find the next best thing to use if i dont have the correct one and in the case of this photo ...sunglasses are the perfect choice!!!!
Glad you like my pics!!!

Yes, I like what you did, but I would rotate it to the left a little (if you don't mind) Kraellin 11-23-2006, 04:40 PM if you're shooting with an slr you can always add a uv filter or any of a number of other filters to the lens as well. once i found out about uv filters i never shot outdoors without one. pavel123 11-23-2006, 06:39 PM if you're shooting with an slr you can always add a uv filter or any of a number of other filters to the lens as well. once i found out about uv filters i never shot outdoors without one.
I may be msitaken here for all I know UV filter is not very useful unless you are high in the mountans. It does one thing perfectly, though, it protects expencive lenses from dust, mosture condesation etc. Kraellin 11-23-2006, 11:56 PM well, maybe i'm thinking of the polarization filter. been a while :) manta1900 11-24-2006, 04:32 AM Yes, I like what you did, but I would rotate it to the left a little (if you don't mind)
I did it myself in the beggining... but it seemed like the boat was sinking. That's because the horizon is like that because the photo was taken sideways. Hmmm.... now you have the difficult part... rotate the boat before it sinks. palms1 11-24-2006, 05:28 AM Thank you guys for the info about filters etc, as my camera is a point and shoot there are no interchangeable lenses, ( sort of glad about that as i would probably be more confused that normal )
Manta and Chillin firstly i had had not noticed the horizon ! so i opened it up in ps and rotated it left a bit and yep that threw the boat out, and now i cant make my mind up dodgy horizon or dodgy boat ! ! ! ! i think i was better of not noticing the horizon
Palms GerryB 05-18-2007, 06:14 PM 1. Duped the pic.
2. New Layer: Selected the sky and land above the water; added a custom sunset gradient; set blending mode to soft light.
3. New Layer; Inverted the preceding selection; filled with a med drk blu; set blending mode to soft light; added a layer mask; painted out the blu tint where the sun is reflected w/soft brush at 50% opacity; changed opacity to
20% and softened the blue tint on the rest of the water.
4. On background layer, select the sky and copied to a new layer. Used a radial blur set at 100% and set the radial point on the sun; added a layer mask; painted out the blur at the edges and generally around where it shouldn't appear with a soft brush set at 50% opacity. chillin 05-18-2007, 07:13 PM Manta and Chillin firstly i had had not noticed the horizon ! so i opened it up in ps and rotated it left a bit and yep that threw the boat out, and now i cant make my mind up dodgy horizon or dodgy boat ! ! ! ! i think i was better of not noticing the horizon
