Welcome back Neb

Thank You Peter. Now that I have that problem solved I have another. Is there anyway you or someone can help me with the girl on the top in the middle? I can not see her dress top to know how to repair and then I need advice on how to work on her neck. I did some cloning and it looked quite awful. Looked like it was painted one color . Do you have step by step instructions
Thanks Again Neb

PS: Here is a bigger one to work on.

i thought i would give this a try. i used the clone brush set to lighten and darken, patch tool, and the blur tool. Here is a link to the finished photo.

To remove the stain I used the Hue/Saturation..pulled the saturation to -100.
With regards to her neck/shirt I cut and pasted from one side of the neck to the other. dis the same with the shirt..then soft cloned (60% opacity) to make them look different.
The trick I think is to clone from as close as possible to the problem and build your way in..If you use a 60-75% opacity its easy to bluid texture and color.

Just touched up a little..
Good luck with it.

Hi, Neb , nice to see you back. :bigthmb:

Just a quick nitpick (as always):
Reducing the saturation to zero works pretty well in this case, because the stain is in the Blue channel and, when you use the default greyscale conversion, only 10% of the Blue channel gets used.
A better way would be to convert to greyscale using the channel mixer, with 50% Red and 50% Green.

As to the neckline, there is no quick fix, either copy from something similar or let loose you artistic skills and paint it in.

All the best,

Thanks 001 Lasa and Ro . Suggestions worked great!! I am happy with the results. Now on to the third and final help question. I used the coloring B&W tutorial in retouch tutorials and it worked very nicely. But when I went to print the final product, it printed black and white, the color was missing?? I am supposing I am missing something to do with the quick mask part when saving? Can anyone help with this?? Thanks Neb

neb,

are you printing from a file with layers or one that is merged and just has the background? if the former, then you need to merge the layers first or pick a layer that is a 'finished' one (with all the data from the other layers where you've worked) and print from that. the printer will not combine your layers when printing.

and are you printing from within ps or from some other source?

Hi Craig:
I am printing from ps . I am also using the file with layers and have not merged them. Also I used the tutorial in retouch pro and I do not like the color greens it comes up with . Is there another tutorial where I can get a better color of my choice? I used the tutorial for coloring a black and white image. Nice tutorial but not enough choice for color. Am I missing something. Thanks Neb

humm ..Craig..I merged layers and it still prints black and white. Now what?

neb,

you merged and the merged image has color ok?

if your merged image has color are you printing in ps with the image open or closed? and has this happened before or is it something new?

also, when your print window opens up, make sure the little box that says 'monochrome' isnt checked.

and if all that doesnt handle it, see if your printer has a color/black & white switch of some sort.

normally, when i print, i have already saved the image and open it up in psp. i go file\print and hit that and i get a new window with all the printer settings and tabs to other settings. i dont know how yours is, but have a look through all of it. in mine, on the opening window, there are 3 tabs. the middle tab is 'options' and there are three radio buttons. one is 'color'. one is 'greyscale' and the last is 'cmyk separations' (this one is usually for printing at a professional printer). make sure your button is set on 'color'.

you also mentioned something about a quick mask. make sure this isnt showing in your merged image. though, if it were there, you probably wouldnt even be able to print in black and white.

other than that, i'm not sure.

Craig: I decided to try this in psp9. I did the selections around the image I do not want to color , then did an invert thinking I could then color the inverted area. Well no luck. It is greyscale and so I can not get color to comeup to color. Can you help me do a coloring using psp please?? :bawling: Neb

neb, i'm a little unsure what it is you were trying to do, but if the original is grayscale you'll need to convert it to rgb first. both ps and psp can do this easily. it will still be black and white, but you can then do your colorizing and then printing.

as for what i use to colorize, i use vikki's recommendation of the worth 1000 web site tutorial, or variations of it (i tend to add in a 4th green layer for some things). you can also paint with a brush or airbrush on a blank layer over your other layers and set the blank to color blend mode. you set the blend mode because if you just brushed on 'paint' it would pile up and ruin the texture and detail. but if you use the color blend mode it will simply allow your 'paint' to alter the current pixels and leave the detail.

So where is the convert to rgb function in both programs craig? Thanks again Neb

neb,

go to 'image\increase color depth\RGB 8 bits per channel' in psp.

ok, ummm, post a few images or parts of, and let's see what you've got so far. always hard to do this when i cant look over your shoulder. screenshots might be better so that we can see your graphic editor interface and things like layers and so on. cause i'm obviously missing something here.

Here you go craig. I hope this helps. I am so confused with all I have done and tried if you can not see what is going on I will just try again. I did merge all of these layers this was before that. Neb

neb,

i dont see anything unusual. the background doesnt have much color and it may be that the printer isnt seeing the color very well because of this. try airbrushing on some color on a blank layer without it being in the color blend mode and see if the printer sees it ok. merge the layers and save before trying the print. make the airbrushing fairly strong so there's no mistakes to the printer. that will tell you if the printer is ok or not.

Thanks again . I do not know what what is going on, I printed another picture and it printer color. Not this one but another one all together!

What tutorial did you say you used for coloring when you mentioned Vikki? Was it on a web site somewhere? I want to start from scratch and try again? Neb

hi neb,

ok, so the printer is fine. from what i could see in your image, it isnt very strong color, so the printer probably just printed it as gray.

do a stronger coloring and here's that web site and tutorial :http://www.worth1000.com/tutorial.asp?sid=161015
