Wow Patricia you do spoil us with these great photo's they are super, I have quite a few ideas for these so will keep coming back and they are giving me quite a festive feel only 20 days to go now

i got this one in quick incase Swampy is about i used her texture mapping technique

http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/photo-based-art/15707-mallard-2.html

overlayed a sketch layer then used minimum followed by maximum ( Swampy also got me trying them out again ) followed by a black stroke

Thanks for sharing them.

This was a beautiful scene to begin with, an spot on in exposure. A slight crop, color tune, sharpen and frame ... et voila!

peter,

this is a formal request that you write up that technique in a tutorial. the more i see it, the more i like it and it works particularly well on these images.

ran this through two filter forge filters, melted glass and sunsets. compression was rather severe at 38%, so not sure how this is going to look.

Arghhh the pressure. Help me mum, they just keep on and on at me. Now its formal I'll have to get a dress suit, and I don't like wearing ties Arghhhhhhhhhh

I'll try but I'm not very good at that sort of stuff, I might be some time.

What lovely pictures!

I'm a Florida native so have to guess at what this snow scene may look like, but I invision crystals on the fine branches with the setting sun sparkling through like a soft prism.

Texture map layer set to luminocity with a soft brush mask to paint out the color on the foreground and far shore line. Then a HSL and Curves adjustment layers to tweak the color and mood.

Patricia,
Beautiful pictures. I would like to congratulate you on an excellent choice of a camera. I was looking at Digital Rebel for some time, finally settled on a different model...Now I wish I didn't

Photoshop, basic filters.

Swampy, I like snow, but next time I have to clean my driveway at -20 I will remember that some fortunate Florida natives do not know how snow looks like..

Peter...Love all of these...very nice effects...It has been said that we will not have a white one this year....hope they are wrong!!!

Stosh...lovely ...you have really popped the colors and the frame looks great..

Craig...Love the colors on the snowy trees...it worked really well...and i have been nattering Peter too...for a tute!!!

Swampy...This is a great look you have devised...really nice!!!

Pavel...Fab...the pic is great....In actual fact the pic you painted was taken with my first digital camera...a sony cybershot just 2 mpx...it really does take lovely scenic shots but not so good people ones...Some of them were taken with my Canon A300 powershot 3.6 mpx.....this is why i am waiting for the snow...to see waht the Rebel can do???? What camera did you get???

Patricia...run out of space..yes i know...i do waffle o :classic: n....

Well, I almost got it... Actually I saw that your cyclamen photos @ innograpx were taken by the Rebel (according to metadata), so I assumed these pics were taken by the same camera.
I have Panasonic FZ30, the camera has a few nice features, not to happy about the noise, though.

That is really good Pavel, your style suits the photo so well...
I am a little confusing...using 3 cameras (could be more if i get the film ones on the go!!!) Only had the Rebel just over 2 months....the cyclamen shots i did in the last two weeks...so you were correct!!
Sorry about the noise...why does it have that??? With new cameras i think it takes a while to get close to perfection...if we ever do???

Here are two more from me..

The one looking out to sea...I did aniso and curves and the snowy trees ink outlines..both framed with an action in Photoshop...

Threw everything at it (vector simplication, Impressionist, Paint Engine, lots of things) to get the result. Not as happy as I wanted it to be, but the clicks had to stop somewhere. :)

Here (http://img377.imageshack.us/img377/3662/img0990cl4.jpg)'s the full, high quality version (attached is a 52% quality crop). :)

Used an action I found on this site to turn it into a painting, then changed the colors to give it more of an evening style. Not totally satisfied with it, but I only spent a couple of minutes on it.

Mr Who, very nice posting.
I sort of used the idea.

Patricia, I'm sure that once you get used to Rebel you won't have a reason to get confused as you would not use other cameras. Color noise for Panasonic is sort of known problem, it gets fairly noticeable at high ISO settings. Apart from that it is a very good camera.

peter,

well, you dont have to wear a tie. i just want a more precise, step by step of what you're doing. you did mention somewhere the rough steps and if it's something you'd rather keep proprietary, that's fine also. but laziness or 'i dont know how' or 'i'm not very good at that' will not be allowed as excuses :)

Sorry about the late reply, I watched a movie (12 monkeys, pretty good) and then went to work. The action itself is called Amateur Painter, it comes in a pack you get from here (http://homepages.slingshot.co.nz/~mikefinn/action.html) You have to pay for it (it comes with more actions, and there are some free ones), but considering all that you get I think it's worth it. Glad you liked it ;)

Lyle...Think you stopped clicking at the right time.....it tuned out great!!!

MrWho...Really like the effect your action gave the photo...

Pavel....This is a nice moody one....would look great poster size!!!
If the photos you have posted here are from your Panosonic then indeed it takes very nice shots...I always have a camera with me....but when going into Stockholm shopping alone it will be a small one...as in this day and age sadly...one could get mugged!!!!

Craig...You are welcome and if you want to play with any in FF...please do!!!

Palms, didn't pay close attention to the rendition first time around, now I have the same feeling, the more I look at it, the more I like the pic. Looks sort of threatening, though, probably dark trees...

Hi John...
Long time...what have you been up to????
Lovely pic of my back garden....great paint job!!!
Ah the weather...today has been sunny but getting colder...at 2.30pm the daylight is almost gone and the sun has set!!! Its snowy up north but so far apart from a i day flurry in October there is not a snow flake falling...happy that its not as grey and wet as it was...

As for your question "what have you been up to"....time seems to just fritter away, and I get no free time at all!!! We went to Lincoln Christmas market yesterday, (take a look at it on the internet) and thinking I may get some decent pics I took the camera...however it was that busy all I got was one or two of the cathederal, not worth posting.

my version. duplicate background layer twice, top layer artistic plastic wrap. settings 17, 11, 6. second layer artistic colored pencil. settings 4, 8, 20
finally set top layer blend mode to hard mix and reduced opacity to 32 percent.

thanks, patricia :)

the white noise/snow was done with the filter forge filter. that part was pretty easy. it was the colors that drove me nuts for a while and i did a lot of tweaking in Paint Shop Pro before i got it how i wanted it.

and happy new year to you and all as well :)
