Thank you very much. Kraellin 12-08-2006, 02:54 PM hi theninjagecko and welcome to RetouchPRO.
what you've got there is what we call a paper texture or scanner texture or just plain unwanted texture, however it was put there.
the solution is the FFT filter. this stands for fast fourier transform. there are a couple of good sources of information on this here in RetouchPRO. just do a global search on the forums for fft or fourier and you shld find the links on where to get the fft filter and how to use it for removing what you want to remove here. it does work.
there is also a piece of software called 'Image Analyzer' which has this filter built into it and is very easy to use and works nicely also. the program is free and you shld be able to find the links for it in the links library here on RetouchPRO. there is also at least one semi-tutorial thread and some examples of how well it works here in RetouchPRO. just do a search for image analyzer (or analyser, with an S... i forget).
one of those two is your solution, fft or fft in image analyzer. Theninjagecko 12-08-2006, 02:56 PM Thankyou :) i will have a ganders around :) Kraellin 12-08-2006, 02:57 PM you're welcome.
just make sure you do a global search and not just on one forum. Theninjagecko 12-08-2006, 03:56 PM ok im using that image analyzer and then filter and fft, i black out the "stars" nearer the centre and it does work to some degree but its not getting rid of all of it.
Any ideas? Theninjagecko 12-08-2006, 04:47 PM Heres my unfinished attempt.

As you can see theres still some lines/circles on there :( Daviskw 12-08-2006, 08:39 PM Hi there
I ran the image below thru Image Analyzer and had good results.
I often zoom in and out when viewing the stars.. sometimes you find some you missed. I also take my time and completely black out the stars. And just in case only click on the stars not the long lines.
Butch chillin 12-08-2006, 08:50 PM It requires a lot of work with imageJ. I ran the FFT multiple times & it isn't perfect Theninjagecko 12-08-2006, 09:06 PM Hi there

Butch
Thats rpetty good, so you dont click on the stars along the line? what about the ones almost i nthe centre of the very bright bit? and the white dots far away ?
Thanks Daviskw 12-08-2006, 09:20 PM Below are screen shots of before and after.
You may want to experiment with the view scale. Sometimes you can find stars you missed at a different scaled view.
Butch I think you can run them thru almost any noise removing software I used my favorite NOISEWARE..but the trick I think is to "add" controled noise after...
Lasa another same tech.. this one was plugin once..add noise..
Lasa Noiseware, grain, patch tool on the big area..didn't clean up rips..
Lasa philbach 12-09-2006, 08:17 AM Well I used Neat Image plus other blur filters like median, surface etc. Theninjagecko 12-09-2006, 10:34 AM Thanks guys, its been a while since i restored a photo but with your help my techniques and understanding have come back lol.. Great job, im finding a pairing of fft then median noise in photoshop grants best results.. way ive been doing it is duplicarting the layer and applying all my effetcs on the top layer then painting back in some lost details such as eyes/lips/hair etc. Kraellin 12-10-2006, 12:30 AM ninja (i'm getting tired of typing your full name ;) )
find the thread with byRo's explanation of how to use the fft filter. there's some very good tips on using it in there. i seem to recall using two layers, one with fft applied set over the original and then a blend mode on the fft layer.... might have been 'luminance'. but, find the thread to make sure. |
