I have this picture "of myself when i was a lil baby" and ive scanned it in and did some auto adjusts in photoshop but i can see some purpleness over the image and i dont know what to do.

if someone could have a look and guide me through i would really apreciate it :), thanks.

Can you post the original untouched image?
The reason I'm asking is that doing the Auto Level actually can remove information that could help in restoring the image...

Well I worked on the first image you posted. I selected the boy and replaced the background. That seemed to be the easiest way.

Thanks phill, i think theres a proper way to do this tho im sure i read it on here last year.

Ok did a fast and dirty job on the face. Removed some nastiness then selected the face and then copied to new layer then used average filter. Blended the layer down using hue mode that gave me a nice even skin colour. I then dodged and burned the original layer to even out the skin.
Then did the same for the background image 2

If you add a Photo Filter Layer, sample an area of cheek and invert the colors, you can neutralize the cast. I stopped here but from here you can fine tune the skin color and clean up the image.

neutralized the caste by averaging the image and setting it as the gray point.
Patch tooled my way around the image. painted in the hot spot on his chin.
Ran the image thru noise program to smooth it out a tad. Got rid of the purple coloring by painting the top corners with the same color as the middle background set to color...then added noise.

I used selective color and levels to change the red hue toward yellow.

Then a blank layer to paint the remaining magenta caste in the background.

Then some clone and healing brush

Finished with a noise filter and sharpen

Used a color cast adjustment by sampling the offending color and placing it on a separate layer which I then Inverted. I then used the Overlay which removed most of the cast. Then a little smudge and clone tool. Took very little time. Obviously could be tweaked more.

i had a go at this also. lots of steps here, color balance, brightness/contrast, lots of clone and lots of airbrush. i had to make several masks and handle some areas separately, like the background and then another on the dark area of his shirt. the face had several 'dirty' areas that had to be cloned and airbrushed. there was a hue/sat layer in there on the shirt selection also. i also had to do a lot of spot cloning. there were more small tears and specks than one might originally see in a casual look at things. the eyes, for instance, had some small tears and stains.

this would make a good challenge picture. there's a number of interesting areas that have to be handled and it would test restorers on several levels.

well, it almost never fails... i walk away from the picture for a while and come back to it and it doesnt look as good as i thought. happens all the time :)

so, i added shadow/midtone/highlights to the pic and then a hue/sat as well. the first was a bit flat, dull. this adds a little more contrast.
