I drive through the snake river canyon every day going to and from work. I left to work early one day to get a picture of this tree at sunrise. Much to my disappointment is was very cloudy and rainy that morning. I was actually leaving without taking any pictures when I noticed the rainbow forming and snapped this photo.

It's not a great photo but it makes a pretty decent water color. :)

Alan, that is very pretty. Nice colors and good composition. The rainy sky gives it a lot of interest I think.
Did you take any other pics that day? It would be fun to play with the hills and valleys with the PWL technique.

Tough assignment to manipulate this nice image and keep the subtle rainbow. So I just ran a little Buzz and let it go at that.

Gorgeous photo. It's been too many years since I was up your way. I too feel you are blessed to live in the area of the country you do. The variety, and the sheer vastness of it all must give you lots and lots of photo ops. Feel free to submit pictures for the rest of us to enjoy any time!!!!!!

Alan, great photo, but in playing with this it appears that it was a DOUBLE rainbow. Look closely in the upper left corner and a faint rainbow is evident. I found it when playing with HSL adjustments and levels.

I still didn't get around to pwl
Technically I would have to call my picture "play with dark".

A quick version done with Impressionist 2 in Photoshop - then pulled into Painter for enhanced brushstrokes and texture.
I have not seen the Snake River, but would love to. I associate river rafting with it, but not sure that is correct??

MargaretM, you are indeed correct!! The snake river is a very popular place for both scenic float trips and white water rafting. There is even a world class surfing wave on one of the rapids and yes, it is pretty strange watching people surf on a river.

....oh, and did I mention it's wonderful fishing for cutthroat trout?

Wow - sounds wonderful. It's now on my list of "must see" places. Cut-throat trout here I come.

Sorry about the rainbow - it just would not stay there.
