If you changed the luminosity, as this was a colour only, I had to discount, admit it did not lend well to recolour as hazel, but even though, some of the colours represented on my monitor did not register as eyes having ever seen other than in horror movies, noticed that many changed the grey veins for red but the inner corner of the eye lacked colour and fleshiness soleah 01-25-2007, 10:12 AM Studied the details on each entry. It helped when I resized the image to life size, to see if it looked realistic or not.
Great entries but I have to weed out some based on the following: 1. Cloned out the highlight on the cheekbone and brow bone as it made it looked flat; 2. Cloned/erased the veins on the eye. 3. Burned the line surrounding the iris, also made it looked flat. 4. Oversharpened.
In short, those that added/changed “something else.”
My top 5 based on color of the iris, eye whites and skin.
1. dcolwel – best skin color and iris color for me. Skin color has a touch of yellow where the skin is stretched like the brow bone and cheekbone. Initially, I thought the color on the iris is unreal but looking at the life size view, it’s okay. I’ve seen hazel eyes like this.
2. lorraine – I love the iris color same as dougs. Doug was placed first because of skin color but only a “hairline” difference.
3. Cassidy – should have applied Gaussian blur on the greens to blend it well. There are still some gray areas on the eye whites and on the lids. The skin just one color. Overall, I've no problem picking this entry.
4. nancyj – No color on the veins, the lid is pale & almost the same color as the skin, the skin just one color. When viewed at life size, it’s a bit pale and the eye whites looked too white. Very nice take on the iris.
5. lilsip – had a hard time deciding with lilsip, chillin and wooden bender. Lilsip has better skin color. Still a bit orangy for my taste. Cupcake 01-25-2007, 03:30 PM Nice work everyone.

5. Nanls Lorraine 01-26-2007, 09:22 AM I looked for the most natural looking eye colors in terms multi-color blending, saturation and highlights.
I also looked for pink in the inner area of the eye rim and corner of the eye. Skin tone was a factor as well.
1. Nanls – Great blend of colors in the iris and there is unique sparkle in the eye and skin that I think really makes the colorization stand out.
2. Doug Colwell – Great blending of eye colors. Excellent work on the eye rim and corner. Good depth there.
3. Cassidy -- Very natural and nice work. Excellent skin tone and depth.
4. Soleah -- Eye colors are very nicely blended. Skin and inner eye areas are also very natural.
5. printmeister – Good blending of eye colors, but I would to see more white in the highlights. Skin tone and inner eye areas are also well done.
Everyone’s work is very good. My final decision was difficult.

5. LonK Doug Colwell 01-29-2007, 08:23 PM They're all hazel as far as I can tell, so judging hazel was out. Anything sharper or obviously different was out. So I guess my picks were mostly based on skin colouring.

I mainly looked at skin tone; that's what makes or breaks the realistic look of the picture for me. I took off for "extras" like changing luminosity, adding highlights, etc. because of this contest's guidelines. Also I saw a few where the skin was kinda purple or green. Lots of good entries, though! Nanls 01-31-2007, 10:01 AM Lorraine :)

Great entries on this one. Although iris color was a consideration, I also looked for good overall skintone including the corner and inner rim which should be pink.
~Nancy~ T Paul 01-31-2007, 09:30 PM Great job and now everyone know a little bit more about the color "hazel" ;)
A close contest and some excellent entries, but congratulations go to Lorraine!!
