I was hoping someone could give me some ideas on how to retouch scars around the areole that a client of mine has due to breast lift surgery. I'm having a problem retouching them since they are around the darker areole. Any ideas on how to hide them and have it look believable. The scarring shows up as a very light (in color) ring around the areole. Just not sure how to retouch this area since it borders the areole.

Don, welcome to Retouch Pro! Try making a selection from the center outward using the eliptical marquee extending to just over the ring, constraining the selection's reach to the outer edge of the ring. This should allow you to clone over the ring without affecting the lighter colored skin.

In order to help you make the selection:
- Drag the initial selection to a position just short of the ring. Hit the Q key to enter Quick Mask Mode (in Photoshop). Then do Filter>Other>Maximum and select a few pixels at a time to extend your selection to the final position. If you overshoot the mark, do Filter>Other>Minimum to shrink the selection. If the ring you wish to clone is not fully circular, you can use the arrow keys to reposition it.

An alternate method to the above would be to use the Pen Toolto make an accurate path and then convert the path to a selection. However, you will need to be proficient in the use of the pen tool to draw those Bezier curves - something most people have trouble with.

Good luck,
Regards, Murray
